Blyth Academy is searching for a qualified guidance counsellor to work with the rest of the campus team to help each student reach their full potential. The Guidance Counsellor is responsible for providing counseling and assistance to all students and enable effective communication between the teacher and student while offering a supportive and open environment that builds confidence and promotes communication.
**Responsibilities**
- Counseling all students grade 9-12 on secondary course selection over four terms.
- Managing the Ontario University Applications (OUAC), Ontario College
- Applications (OCAS) and support students interested in other Canadian postsecondary options.
- Working with teachers, parents and students on grade 9 transition.
- Undertaking guidance administrative work, such as report cards, transcripts, etc.
- Overseeing the maintenance of the OSRs.
- Assisting the Principal in course scheduling and timetabling.
- Assisting with admissions, interviews and follow-up as needed.
- Assisting with Academy presentations and parent teacher interviews.
- Compiling a list of Community Resources for students and recommend as needed.
- Discuss opportunities to study abroad or do academic exchanges with partner schools.
- Primary follow-up on attendance/late issues with students & parents.
- Overseeing community service and extra-curricular programs for students.
- Handling inquires as needed concerning full-time, night-school, summer school courses, and private studies.
- Knowledgeable on all Blyth Academy services and able to provide families with the necessary decision-making information
- Identifying opportunities for and supporting community outreach/engagement activities
- Able and available to conduct family tours at campus
- Provide in person support for on and off campus recruitment events, info sessions and presentations
- Daily and as required updates in the CRM; On-going database management to ensure that an organized database is maintained
- Managing re-enrolment and retention activities
- Social media updates reflecting campus events/activities
- Supporting campus aesthetics improvements (observations/recommendations)
- Supporting central marketing in gathering student testimonials, program information or other content
- Other duties as assigned by the Principal or Head of Guidance.

**Requirements**:

- College diploma or University degree preferred
- Minimum of two years’ experience in a secondary school Guidance role
- Familiarity with the OSSD and university program requirements (including EQAO, OUAC, ONSIS, OSR, inspection, competitions, etc.)
- Understands the regulations behind OSR management (creating, transfer, closing, maintenance)
- Familiarity with Trevlac, Edsby, and attendance management systems strongly preferred
- Has great patience, approachable to students, responsible when completing tasks and answering student inquiries
- Capable to work in a high-pressure multitasking environment
- Previous experience with international students highly preferred
- Excellent use of the Microsoft Suite, especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Highly organized, the ability to multitask efficiently will be a strong asset in this position.
