**Position Summary**
Under the direction of the Inspector Investigative Services, this position is responsible for performing tactical and strategic analysis of pertinent crime data, as well as the development of report-generating programs that can be accessed as required by individual members of the police service. The crime analyst will focus on tactical crime analysis to assist in identifying; perpetrators, distinct criminal activity, temporal crime patterns and community conditions that may be associated with crime and disorder, thereby contributing to effective and efficient police resources deployment and community initiatives.
The position is based upon a 40-hour work week. The position is a weekly schedule of days, Monday to Friday, typically 8:30am - 4:30pm, although the position requires flexibility and the ability to work overtime hours, which may include evenings or weekends as required to meet the operational needs of the organization.

**Responsibilities**
- Provide tactical, strategic, investigative and criminal intelligence analysis and expertise as required.
- Collect, collate, and analyze, prioritize, research and disseminate data from a wide variety of complex data sources, including occurrence/crime data from internal and external sources.
- Perform statistical and analytical research utilizing various technical aids including correlation, regression, probability.
- Properly source and safeguard highly sensitive information (e.g., source debriefs) and maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Conduct predictive modeling to identify trends, patterns, issues and recommend corrective actions
- Responsible for the creation, maintenance, administration, and accuracy of shared information and intelligence databases
- Create reports for and respond to requests from the Executive and the Kingston Police Services Board regarding evolving crime patterns and trends.
- Provide information / intelligence to assist operational / investigative / intelligence officers in the identification of specific and immediate crime problems and the arrest of criminal offenders.
- Conduct specialized searches of internal computer systems for Patrol, Criminal Investigation Division, and other units, as well as, for outside police agencies
- Provide information through reports, summaries, and briefings (e.g., graphic, narrative, map, and data formats)
- Monitor the quality of incident report data for crime analysis purposes
- Gather data that will facilitate the creation of Event Flow and Link Charts for specific projects;
- Prepare and distribute daily, weekly and monthly crime reports on select criminal occurrences and in various formats including charts, maps and tables for use by service personnel
- Develop report packages and provide training that will assist members in becoming self-directed in their data retrieval efforts
- Work variable hours, including shift work as required
- Be available as a resource person for other members of the Kingston Police at large, assisting them with investigations
- Preparing and distributing dissemination reports to support the assigned section’s mandate, as directed.
- Attend and participate at briefing sessions, seminars, management and analyst meetings, and analyst related training from accredited providers as required.
- Research new and evolving analytical techniques and software products; provide knowledge updates and technical support to other analysts/software users as required.
- Attend line ups, training days, platoon/divisional meetings as approved to relay information
- Be cognizant of, and make suggestions relating to, directives and training relative to Criminal investigations
- Assist with the delivery of training programs and the dissemination of information to members of the Kingston Police, other agencies and the community, in relation to criminal investigation activity
- Inform the public and media about the Kingston Police investigative activity as required
- Perform other duties as required.
**Required Qualifications**
- completed a university degree in Criminology, Mathematics, Data Science, Geography, Social Sciences or related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience and education plus additional courses or training in analysis techniques and research methodologies
