**What You’ll Do**

As a Geoscience Assessment Officer, you will have the opportunity to use your expertise to work as part of a team who functions as the corporate authority for geoscience and environmental risk assessments. We ensure that risks to the public and the environment are properly assessed, that appropriate mitigation measures are identified and implemented, and that sound principles are applied in the siting, design, construction, operation and decommissioning of nuclear facilities, in order to minimize impacts.

Reporting to the Director, you’ll:
REG5:

- assist in the conduct of technical assessments
- participate in and assist with technical inspections.
- draft reports and other documentation for further review.
- assist with managing projects related to area of specialization.
- assist in supporting national and international program activities.

REG6:

- conduct technical assessments, provide support, advice and recommendations for environmental reviews, licensing and compliance.
- participate in inspections.
- participate in the development of regulatory framework documents.
- participate in CNSC Commission proceedings.
- manage and/or support research projects.
- support national and international programs and activities.

**Essential Qualifications**:
**Education and/or Certification**:
Master’s degree in science or engineering from a recognized university, with relevant specialization in hydrogeology, hydrology or other related fields. An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience may be considered.

**Language Requirements**:
English Essential

**Experience**:

- Interpreting and analyzing hydrogeological and/or hydrological data for the purposes of providing technical support, advice and recommendations
- Collaborating and communicating with different stakeholders and partners
- Conducting, managing and/or supporting research projects

**Knowledge**:

- Theories and principles of hydrogeology as it relates to the assessment of risks to the environment and the public, including aquifer and aquitard characterization, interaction between groundwater and surface water, and groundwater flow and contaminant transport modeling.
- Theories and principles of surface water hydrology, including hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, flood hazard and risk assessment and statistical methods in hydrology
- Groundwater and surface water protection and monitoring programs, including regulatory requirements, national and international best practices
- Climate change and its potential impacts as well as climate model projection data and use
- Knowledge and understanding of the CNSC’s mandate as well as the Canadian Nuclear Safety and Control Act, Regulations and supporting guidance documentation.

**Ability**:

- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Ability to synthesize technical information and explain complex regulatory issues to non-technical audiences
- Deal with sensitive issues with diplomacy, tact and judgement
