Reporting to the Ottawa Regional Manager, this is a technically demanding, challenging and most rewarding role requiring not only a thorough understanding of the nature and functions of various systems in vehicles of all kinds, but also a strong automotive engineering knowledge base. The role handles or leads technical investigations involving fire, explosion or mechanical failures associated with vehicles and machinery, from initially collecting the evidence on site to preparing the final technical report and ultimately giving expert testimony in a court if needed.

Responsabilities:

- Conduct or lead investigations to determine the root and cause of fire, explosion and mechanical breakage of vehicles including light, heavy, commercial, passenger, trucks, haulers, farm equipment and large off-road mobile machinery and equipment.
- Review technical documentation that may include engineering drawings, relevant standards, regulations, codes, operating manuals, and maintenance records.
- As needed, carefully dismantle components or assemblies in a systematic and non-destructive manner to obtain the evidence. Perform on-site or laboratory examinations of the evidence to assess if it may have been a cause of a loss and determine the failure mechanism. Safely secure evidence for further analysis, and presentation to client and/or in court if required.
- Promptly provide preliminary verbal and/or written opinion to the clients in a form that can be readily understood by a layperson. Attend client meetings to discuss the investigation outcome.
- Prepare final investigation finding reports that may be in the form of a brief letter style or a detailed, illustrated report depending on the complexity of the case.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously and execute all phases according to internal and external standards. Liaise with and work as part of multi-disciplinary teams investigating the technical aspects of insurance or legal related losses.
- Participate in marketing and business development activities. Promote CEP as effective business partner. Identify potential clients, build business relationships, and generate new business.
- Always follow HSE guidelines, procedures, and policies. Ensure safety of self, others, and the assets.

Requirements:

- Mechanical Engineering preferred but not mandatory
- 5 years of relevant experience
- CVFI certification, an asset
- Must be bilingual with native or expert level written and oral communication abilities in FRENCH & ENGLISH.
- Professional report writing skills and ability to review documents prepared by young engineers.
- Excellent synthesis, analysis, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
- Proficient in MS Office and Google Apps.
- Hands-on knowledge of applied general and industrial mechanics, typical failure mechanisms and types of testing with ability to use variety of test equipment and devices
- Concern for efficiency, attention to detail, excellent common sense, planning, organizing and prioritization. Curiosity, good judgment, sense of initiative.
