**Position: PURCHASING AGENT**
Igloo Building Supplies Group Ltd., (Long Sault, ON) is searching for a critical thinker who is detailed oriented and who has strong analytical skills paired with excellent written and verbal skills. The purchasing agent duties will include conducting market research, building a network of reliable vendors and building partnerships with these vendors and negotiating the best contracts. You should have strong computer skills and be able to work in a fast-paced team environment.
**Duties & Responsibilities**
- Previous experience in large scale purchasing building materials or similar commodity.
- Establish new vendor relationships.
- Conducting research on potential products, vendors, to ensure quality price standards are met.
- Meeting with vendors to negotiate the best contracts.
- Liaising with Vendors, follow up on delivery, and communicate with our operations teams and ensure due dates are updated and goods are received on time.
- Monitor inventory and write orders or transfers to refill stock.
- Quote, order, and purchase building materials
- Verifying, preparing, and forwarding P. O’s
- Updating costs and deliverables
- Authorizing payments and managing purchasing expenses with meticulous record-keeping
- Confirm invoicing and approve for payment.
- Verify specifications and prices, obtain recommendations from suppliers, and suggest material alternatives.
- Interact and provide support to our sales team.
- Inspecting purchased products upon delivery and reporting any issues in a timely fashion
- Updating product lines and improving price points.
- Maintain and correct overages.
- Inform and maintain proper systems for products to sales staff to improve knowledge and flow.
- Review manufacturer’s quotes and take-offs
- Creation of systems to price quickly, eliminating sending quotes out
- Attending and contributing to meetings with staff and other stakeholders.
- Attending events, trade shows to network with vendors and view new products.
- Continuous improvement strategies.
**Qualifications and Skills**:
- High School Diploma
- A strong construction materials background that includes complete cycle purchasing experience (source, quote, consolidate, procures) is an asset.
- Strong communication and people skills.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
- Willing to work extra hours.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with strict deadlines.
- The ability to read blueprints and specifications is an asset.
- Practical experience with Microsoft 365
- Strong analytical skills
- Sound research and networking skills
- Familiar will volume discounts/rebate programs and bulk purchasing
- Enjoy working in a group setting and team environment.
