- PEA - Term- # of Hires Needed- 1- Category- Other- About this OpportunityThe Division of Student Affairs (STUA) is made up of four departments with 26 reporting units that work together to help create an environment where our students are actively engaged in their academic pursuits and the co-curricular life of the university. From Food Services to Academic Advising, each of the units of Student Affairs exists to help UVic students succeed. This new position works across the STUA portfolio and is housed within Student Development and Success (SDAS), which focuses on the development and implementation of strategic student support models, co-curricular engagement programming, and serving as a key resource for both the Division of Student Affairs and campus leaders as it relates to student retention and satisfaction planning and initiatives. SDAS also focuses on the establishment of a new professional development program available to all staff across the Division.

**The salary range for this position is**:
**Recruitment range: $61,154- $67,421** starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.

**Performance range: starting salary to max of $79,510** is available through annual performance increases.
- Job SummaryThe International Centre for Students (ICS), a unit within the Department of Student Services, is a centralized resource which provides services, information and supports for all international students including degree-seeking, incoming and outgoing exchange students, visiting and visiting research students.

The ICS plays a key role in supporting and contributing to the retention and success of international students.

Reporting to the Associate Director, International Centre for Students, the Settlement Adviser will support settlement services for International Students. Responsibilities include:

- Serve as an ICS settlement practitioner for international students and their families
- Engage with student, community, faith based and government organizations
- Liaise with schools and school districts in the community
- Support the Mandatory Temporary Medical Insurance (MTMI) Program
- Review of current ICS settlement advising practice
- Research services at comparable institutions
- Conduct focus groups, surveys and interviews to gather information from international students
- Identify gaps and areas needing enhancement within the International Centre for Students
- Create reports with findings and recommendations
- Create web and print material content based on findings and recommendations

As a result of the nature of the duties and responsibilities of this position, occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
- Job RequirementsThis position requires a level of education, training, and experience equivalent a Bachelor’s Degree plus 3 years of relevant experience preferably in a post-secondary environment. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

- Superior communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds using diplomacy, sensitivity, and using a different modality as needed.
- Ability to build and maintain productive working relationships and create positive community engagement.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Proven track record achieving project goals on time and produce deliverables of a high quality.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse population and with all levels of university personnel.
