**Youth Support Worker**:

Working within our Youth Services Department, the Youth Outreach Worker is responsible for the facilitation and delivery of a variety of 1-to-1 and group based services supporting newcomer and refugee youth in their settlement and integration needs. The Youth Outreach Worker will be conducting referrals, intake, recruitment, orientation, and implementation of activities for new immigrant youth between the ages of 13-24.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Conducts outreach to promote youth programs and connect with youth clients for service delivery recruitment;
- Gathers sufficient information to assess the needs and issues of newcomer youth and develops and implements an action plan to meet these identified needs;
- Provides one-to-one support to youth clients and facilitates appropriate activities for Youth Program participants;
- Plans and implements life skill development group program based on clients needs;
- Develops materials/manuals for short term workshops on topics such as cross cultural communication, health and wellbeing, post-secondary opportunities as well as facilitating these workshops in conjunction of invited guest experts;
- Detects issues such as depression, family violence, substance abuse, intergenerational conflicts through the early identification of warning signs that may be present in part as a result of the cultural adjustment challenges faced by the client/client family and to refer clients to the appropriate support services;
- Liaises with, and promotes the interests of youth clients, with service providers in the community for the purposes of program promotion, case consultation, referral and management;
- Establishes and maintains comprehensive inventories of community resources to make available to youth refugee clients;
- Maintains all required records and client files;
- Maintains accurate statistics and report them monthly;
- Participate in the agency’s PQI and accreditation processes;
- Assists with the monitoring, development and implementation of quality assurance measures.
- Degree or Diploma in Child and Youth Care, Psychology, Social Work or related field from a recognized post-secondary institution;
- Minimum of one-year related experience with youth settlement work, community development or outreach; or an equivalent combination of training and experience;
- Knowledge of immigrant and settlement issues, integration process, needs and risk assessment, youth dynamics, and the impact of trauma;
- First Aid Certificate;
- Valid BC Driver’s License and access to personal vehicle an asset;
- Professional level written and spoken fluency in English;
- Second Language an asset;
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting, strong interpersonal skills, and demonstrates effective conflict resolution/problem solving skills.
This position requires union membership. A Criminal Record Check is a requirement of employment.
