**Position Overview**:
West Shore Parks & Recreation Society (WSPRS) is seeking an energetic, organized and positive-minded Facility Maintenance Workers to keep things clean, in excellent working condition and help this well-oiled machine deliver the very best of recreation the Westshore has to offer This position can perform a wide variety of semi-skilled maintenance and custodial duties including the use of specialized equipment in various parts of the complex. These individuals will need to be quick on their feet, have a positive attitude with the ability to adapt and multi-task. WSPRS is located on the Island Highway and features 108 acres of amazing facilities and green space. These individuals will have the opportunity to learn about WSPRS maintenance department and potentially move up the ranks to call this their permanent home. Salaries and job duties are based on qualifications.

**Job Duties & Accountabilities**:

- Performs building cleaning functions such as mop washing and scrubbing floors, disinfecting washrooms and change rooms, cleaning public areas and replenishing supplies.
- Performs building and equipment maintenance related to painting, plumbing, janitorial equipment, arena/ice making equipment, heating systems and pool operations.
- Maintains contact with teams, organizations, and the general public and advises on facilities use and availability according to the booking schedule.
- If certified, monitor and record the operation of the arena refrigeration plant, checks oil levels and pressures, refrigerant temperature and pressure, cooling water and brine temperature, and be fully conversant with emergency procedures.
- If certified, operates refrigeration equipment and maintains ice surfaces in the arena; assists in maintaining the Indoor Sports Complex (ISC).
- Tests water samples from pools and ensures chlorine, Ph and alkalinity levels conform to health department requirements. Vacuums and brushes pool walls, gutters and surfaces, backwashes pool filters and disinfects pool decks.
- Sets up tables, chairs, and other items as required by users’ contract specifications.
- Cleans and makes minor repairs to hair and lint strainers on pump units and chemical feed systems and monitors the operation of a variety of pumps and filters, logging results and making adjustments.
- Completes records and reports, as well as updates maintenance logbook.
- Assists in training of new employees with various work procedures.

**Qualifications**:

- High school graduation or equivalent.
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience as a Facility Maintenance Worker or in a similar role, with hands-on experience in building maintenance and custodial tasks.
- Pool Operator Certificates (Level 1 and 2) are required.
- Ice Facility Operator course recognized by the BC Safety Authority is required for the FMW II (J08a).
- BC Refrigeration Operator certificate (or higher) is required for the FMW III (J09a).
- Knowledge of building maintenance, cleaning, and building trades, including relevant health department regulations for public pools and indoor arenas.
- Familiarity with materials, tools, and equipment used in janitorial and building maintenance work, including WHMIS and the safe handling of chemicals, corrosive materials, and pressurized gasses.
- Ability to perform semi-skilled mechanical tasks and minor repairs with mínimal supervision.
- Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with staff and the general public.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a collaborative environment.
- Physical strength and stamina to perform the required duties.
- Willingness to work various shifts, including days, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Valid Class 5 BC driver’s license is required.
- First Aid/CPR-C certification is considered an asset.

NOTE: Due to WCB Regulations, steel-toed shoes are a requirement for this position.
