**Job Summary**
The maintenance worker, under the guidance of the maintenance team lead, handles the maintenance of the building, grounds, and equipment at Gateway of Niagara Community Social Services of Niagara Inc., including preventative maintenance and urgent repair needs. The maintenance worker will complete a variety of remodeling tasks and provide counsel to management regarding facility issues.
**Responsibilities**:
- General interior and exterior improvements and small construction/renovation projects
- Preventative facility maintenance and inspections as needed
- Perform minor repairs as needed and install office equipment, furniture, decorative items and light fixtures
- Maintain daily appointments and scheduling of maintenance/repair projects
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality in all interactions
- Maintain a professional image and demeanor with all employees, community partners, consumers, and visitors at all times
Scheduled Maintenance
- Perform minor plumbing maintenance (e.g. replacement or repair of leaks in drains and faucets, unclogging of drains, trenching, and laying new lines, replacing drain hoses on washers and similar devices, etc.)
- Perform minor painting, carpentry, masonry work, electrical work, dry walling
Cleaning and Inspection
- Review and prepare all documents, reports, and other correspondence materials
- Organize and perform the cleaning and maintenance of “community” areas and buildings and grounds
- Assist in coordinating licensed inspections as required
- Identify and recommend methods and schedules for maintenance to management and coordinate major maintenance and repairs as required
- When authorized, order materials needed and maintain required documentation
- Conduct onsite annual inspections of owned and managed units
- Other duties as assigned
Work Conditions:
- Working indirectly with individuals living in poverty
- Working indirectly with individuals experiencing crisis, living rough or living in public spaces
- Interacts with residents, staff, vendors, contractors, fire department, and police when necessary
- Exposure to intermittent weather, and environment extremes
- Manual dexterity is required to use desktop computers and peripherals
- Regular physical activity including lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing, carrying, walking, standing, and sitting
- May be exposed to environments that have cigarette smoke, drug paraphernalia or illegal substances
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Minimum of one year experience maintenance and renovations
- Experience with mental health and/or addictions is an asset
- Experience working with handheld, power tools and equipment
- A valid G drivers’ license with a reliable vehicle and permission to carry rider attached with 2-million-dollar liability
- Good organizational, problem solving, time management and prioritizing skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent interpersonal skills with good oral and written skills
- Computer literacy, including effective working skills of MiProperties, MS Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook, and Outlook Calendar
- Strong morals and ethics, along with a commitment to staff and client privacy
- Demonstrated ability to function within and contribute to a fast-paced team environment
- Physically able to perform all assigned tasks, must be able to lift, bend, push, pull, walk, climb and sit for extended periods
- Ability to work under mínimal supervision
- Must be willing to do apartment clean outs where pest control might be an issue
- Willing to be a part of the on-call rotation
**Additional Information**
Pay: $18.64-$20.71 per hour
Expected hours: 35 per week
