**Job Title**:Education Assistant
**Duration**: May 8, 2023 through August 11, 2023
**Wages**: $18/hour, 35 hours per week (7 hours per day, 5 days per week)

**Job Purpose**:
Within the Museum Education program, the Education Assistant assumes responsibility for facilitating in-person tour programs. The Assistant will work in conjunction with the
Cultural Interpreters in ensuring the quality of programming and respond to the various needs of the Centre’s patrons within the tour program.

**Responsibilities**:

- Research and become familiar with the Museum Education program, the Museum collection, the Cultural Centre, and the technology assets of the Centre.
- Participate in training as deemed appropriate by the Manager of Education.
- Facilitate in-person tours programs as scheduled and assigned by the Tour

Coordinator.
- Work the reception desk on a rotating basis; this will include becoming familiar with the telephone system, money-handling procedures, customer service skills, and specific museum knowledge and general cultural information.
- Participate in and contribute to all staff and professional meetings required of the position.
- Complete other tasks as assigned.
- Ensure and maintain office space and equipment in a satisfactory manner.

Under the supervision of the Manager of Education, the Education Assistant will undertake the following activities.

Initial:

- Become familiar with the programs, services, and staff of the Woodland

Cultural Centre.
- Complete orientation to the Museum Education and tour programs of the

Woodland Cultural Centre (policies, safety regulations, location of various resource materials).
- Train in the areas of tour facilitation and audience cognition.
- Learn about and adhere to the Dress Code of the Woodland Cultural Centre.

On-going:

- In-Person Tour Facilitation - provide high quality tour programming across a myriad of pre-developed virtual offers ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and responsiveness to one’s audience

**Qualifications**:

- Must be highly organized and detail-oriented
- Excellent Oral Communication skills required
- Able to function well independently as well as within a team setting
- Knowledge of an Ongwehonweh culture an asset
- Previous museum experience an asset

This placement is generously funded by the Pathways to Success Program provided by the Indigenous
Professionals Association of Canada.

Applicants must be Indigenous youth between the ages of 17-29 at the start of the contract.
