**Job Role**:
The sharpener is responsible for the manufacturing of new cutting dies and the repair of existing dies in a fast paced environment. The cutting dies are primarily used to cut paper, leather, rubber, wood and plastic.
**Responsibilities**:
- Inspect dies for repair.
- Prepare materials, sharpen and polish existing and new cutting dies.
- Prepare dies for finishing (measure, cut, deburr, grind and hand file)
- Use of grinding equipment such as belt sanders, surface grinder, polishing wheels and hand grinder.
- Use of measuring equipment (ruler, vernier and micrometers)
- Effectively communicate with supervisor and co-workers and work in a team environment
- Ensure that work area including machinery is clean and safe at all times
- Deal with changing priorities in a quick and efficient manner
- Work safely while maintaining productivity and ODC quality standards
- Ability and willingness to learn the skills required for this position as well as all the processes to manufacture different types of cutting dies
- Perform other departmental job-related duties as assigned by your supervisor or his/her designate
**Qualifications**:
- Knowledge of different types of tool steels.
- Experience working with hand tools such as belt sanders, surface grinders, polishing wheels and hand grinders.
