Located in the south-central region of B.C., the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) covers an area over 10,400 km2 and is renowned for its orchards, vineyards and golf courses, as well as its widely varied landscape including deserts, mountains and valleys, pristine lakes and outdoor recreational opportunities.

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen is currently recruiting for a regular, full-time **Waste Reduction Coordinator** to join the Solid Waste team.

The Waste Reduction Coordinator position is responsible for promoting regional solid waste programs and educating the public on waste reduction, recycling and waste recovery initiatives including associated curbside and depot programs as outlined in the regional Solid Waste Management Plan.

**Qualifications**:

- Post-secondary degree in environmental studies/science, resource management or related field.
- A minimum of two (2) years related experience in solid waste operations and/or delivery of environmental programs, preferably in a local government setting. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Solid Waste Association of North America’s Manager of Landfill Operations (MOLO) certification or the ability to attain is considered an asset.
- Experience in delivering educational messages to diverse audiences.
- Experience in community-based marketing is considered an asset.
- Ability to prepare and deliver oral presentations and communicate effectively with various stakeholders.
- Working knowledge of curbside waste collection systems, waste reduction education programs and Solid Waste Management Plans.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently with limited supervision.
- Ability to work on a number of concurrent tasks with deadline pressures.
- Ability to be courteous and diplomatic in dealing with the public and co-workers.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Demonstrated computer skills Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence.

This regular, full-time position is included in the BCGEU bargaining unit. The hourly wage for the position is $42.91 (2023 rate), Paygrade 9, plus an attractive fringe benefits package.
