**The opportunity**

Reporting to the Supervisor of the virus Scientific Laboratory, the Molecular Biology Laboratory Technician has the function of performing food analysis by molecular techniques, focused on the detection of viral pathogens such as Hepatitis A and Norovirus GI and GII. The specific functions are receiving and preparing the samples for analysis, including nucleic acid extraction and PCR techniques, as well as ensuring that the standards and the ways of working in place at Nature's Touch are maintained and always respected. The person in charge must be a hard-working, detail-oriented individual who's not afraid to roll up his/her sleeves and work closely with all departments in the organization in a highly collaborative atmosphere of continuous improvement.

Shift: Day (8 am - 4 pm, may vary depending on the needs)

**The role**
- Sample reception and preparation.
- Preparation of acid/base solutions.
- Water concentration by filtration techniques.
- Carrying out nucleic acid extraction procedures.
- Preparation of reagents and sample preservation.
- qPCR setup and elaboration of standard curves.
- Viral stock production and maintenance.
- Pathogens detection by qRT-PCR.
- Maintenance of laboratory inventory and ordering of the material.
- Maintains good documentation and ensures data curacy.
- Ensuring compliance with Nature's Touch regulations, certifications in place, documentation, standards, as well as ensuring compliance with the EMP (Environmental Monitoring Program), GDP (Good Documentation Practices), and GLP (Good Laboratory Practices).
- Curious and proactive in detecting potential risks and mitigating observed risk.
- Is as comfortable communicating with senior management as staff.
- Active contribution to data collection and improvement initiatives to achieve targeted KPIs (Key Performance Indicators).
- Performing other duties as required.

**What you will bring**
- University degree in Biology, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Biomedicine, Environmental science or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of molecular biology basics: Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), n-PCR, Quantitative RT-PCR, primer design, PCR setup, sequencing, and nucleic acid extraction.
- Strong knowledge of Biosafety practices.
- Basic knowledge in virology: viral detection and quantification by molecular technics, viral stock production and stock maintenance.
- Basic knowledge of bacteriology as well as food microbiological pathogens.
- Basic laboratory knowledge and skills: ability and knowledge in the preparation of acid/base solutions, pH adjustment, ability to learn and use complex laboratory equipment.
- Excellent communication skills in English (written and spoken), French are a plus.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Able to lift weights of about 30 lbs (13kg).
- Qualities required: Highly meticulous, excellent team player, rigorous, autonomous, organized, structured, good priority management, initiative, good analytical skills, respect for confidentiality.
