**KEY FUNCTION**:
Measure, analyze, and report on the quality of technical, physics-related aspects of radiotherapy. Service and maintain major radiation oncology systems, including Linear Accelerators (LINAC) and Computed Tomography (CT) simulators. Participate in related research and development of new radiation therapy procedures.
**REPORTING**:
Under the general direction of the Chief Physicist and Manager.
**DUTIES**:
- Perform commissioning, acceptance testing, and quality assurance measurements on radiotherapy equipment.
- Perform patient dose measurement, analysis, and assist in patient planning and setups.
- Provide physics and technical support to the Medical Physicist in radiation protection, qualitative machine calibrations, and quality assurance of the radiation oncology equipment.
- Provide frontline troubleshooting, repair, and post-repair testing of medical LINAC and other radiation equipment.
- Maintain records of equipment maintenance and operations to ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures and external licensing and accrediting agency regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of activities.
- Participate in completing radiation protection procedures, including surveys, leak testing, and training sessions.
- Interpret measurement results within the context of the radiotherapy process.
- Provide support in development and maintenance of computerized radiation oncology systems.
- Participate in research projects, development, and special projects within the Medical Physics team, including experiments, data analysis, and report and publication preparation.
- Educate and promote health, safety and wellness in the work place.
- Determine and align improvement projects with HSN’s Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes.
- Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
**EDUCATION AND TRAINING**:
- Minimum of a four (4) year Bachelor’s Degree in Physics, Electronics Engineering, Radiation Therapy or Computer Science, from an accredited university or equivalent.
- Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.
**EXPERIENCE**:
- Minimum of one (1) year of practical experience working in in a health care environment or in an Electronics or Technician role within the industry.
- Experience working in programming and with mathematical software packages is preferred.
**KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES**:
- Demonstrated superior problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze and assess issues.
- Demonstrated knowledge of fundamentals of electronics and communication systems.
- Demonstrated ability to repair mechanical, electromechanical, electronic, and computer medical technology, diagnose/repair devices and systems.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Canadian Safety Authority (CSA) standards.
- Demonstrated ability to learn equipment maintenance and repair procedures from service engineer representatives, training materials and relevant courses.
- Demonstrated training, experience or utilization of quality improvement methodology for process improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue improvement.
- Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and patient information systems.
- Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated ability to manage routine correspondence, multiple tasks/projects, diversified workload and rapidly changing priorities and challenging deadlines.
- Demonstrated discretion and maturity when handling confidential information.
- Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.
**PERSONAL SUITABILITY**:
