**About Us**: The Learning Disabilities Association of York-Simcoe (LDAYS), is a non-profit organization dedicated to advocating for individuals with Learning Disabilities (LD). We provide leadership in LD research, education, and services to advance the full participation of children, youth, and adults with LD in society.
Learning Disabilities affect the acquisition, retention, understanding, and organization of information due to impairments in psychological processes. These challenges occur alongside average abilities in thinking and reasoning. Areas of impact include:
- Oral Language
- Reading
- Written Language
- Mathematics
**Role Overview**: LDAYS is launching a new program, **Homework & Beyond**, and we are seeking **Volunteer Tutors** to support this free drop-in program. Tutors will assist students with numeracy, literacy, and general homework help.
**Location**:
9030 Leslie St., Unit 216, Richmond Hill, ON
**Schedule**:
Thursdays from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM (1-2 times per month)
**Responsibilities**:
- Assist students with learning disabilities (ages 10-12) in small group settings (1:3 tutor-to-student ratio).
- Provide homework help and support in literacy and numeracy.
- Facilitate interactive learning games.
- Support a positive, inclusive learning environment.
- Attend required training sessions.
- Report to the Volunteer Coordinator.
**Qualifications**:Education**:
- High school diploma completed or currently in Grade 12.
- College/University experience is an asset.
**Experience**:
- Previous teaching/tutoring experience preferred.
- Experience working with students with learning disabilities is a strong asset.
- Ideal for retired teachers looking to give back to the community.
**Licenses/Certifications**:
- Volunteer Vulnerable Sector Screening.
**Skills**:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to plan and organize tutoring sessions effectively.
- Fluent in English with excellent numeracy and literacy skills.
- Familiarity with the Ontario Curriculum and an understanding of learning disabilities.
