Environmental Technician
The Environmental Technician is responsible for environmental monitoring, maintaining environmental monitoring equipment, conducting inspections to verify compliance with legal and other requirements, providing field support to functional departments and undertaking other activities as specified in the site environmental management system.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Conduct environmental monitoring of surface water, groundwater, contact water, wastewater, air quality, and soil quality.
- Support monitoring of vegetation, wildlife and aquatic resources.
- Operate and maintain environmental monitoring equipment.
- Ensure sufficient equipment and supplies are available to undertake required monitoring programs.
- Undertake inspections to verify compliance with legal and other requirements.
- Conduct inspections to verify that hazardous and non-hazardous waste is being managed appropriately.
- Promote site-wide environmental awareness and provide support to functional departments and contractors related to environmental matters and operating plans.
- Support the Emergency Response Team in the event of an environmental incident.
- Perform basic calculations and conduct data entry for monitoring programs.
- Prepare and maintain reports and records as required.
- Participate in community meetings as required.
- Support the implementation of the site environmental management system.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalency.
- College Diploma or other post-secondary education in and environment or related discipline is an asset.
- Valid Ontario Driver’s License.
- Effective communication skills.
- Basic knowledge of MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.).
- Previous experience with environmental data management software is an asset.
- Experience operating various field equipment (pick-up truck and trailer, UTV, boat, snowmobile).
- Experience working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Ability to complete tasks that are physically demanding.
- Previous experience working at a mine or other industrial site is considered an asset.
**WORKING CONDITIONS**
- Site based position.
- Primarily working outdoors in various weather conditions.
**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent
**Salary**: $70,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
