**Parks Technician**
(This position is being filled on a temporary basis. If and when this opportunity becomes permanent the successful applicant will transition from temporary full time to permanent full time, and benefits will be backdated to the start of the temporary assignment.)

**Salary**: $32.05/hr
Position Status: Temp Full-Time
**Responsibilities**:
- Performs activities for the care and maintenance of municipal horticultural assets such as planting and maintenance of plant material, trees, shrubs, turf areas, street landscaping walkways and public buildings
- Delivers plant warranty care monitoring and programs
- Develops long term landscaping plans.
- Oversees the municipal tree well program
- Pruning or removal of damaged, diseased, or overgrown trees
- Identification of noxious weeds/plants and eradication techniques or options
- Assists in ordering plants, materials and equipment
- Ensures irrigation systems are functioning and determines watering schedules
- Supervision and day-to-day decisions relating to work crews including summer students
- Monitor contractors and hired equipment who are engaged in related activities
- Maintain effective working relationship with the public, city departments and outside organizations
- Relief for Cemetery Admin position
**Qualifications**:
- Grade 12 Diploma or equivalency
- Degree or Diploma in Horticulture Technician, Urban Forestry, or related field. Equivalent working experience may be considered in lieu of education.
- Three (3) years’ work experience in parks construction, maintenance, landscaping, grounds operations
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience developing landscaping work plans, including preparation and material requirements, plant inventory storage and maintenance, labour and equipment planning, crew scheduling and work sequencing and contractor supervision.
- Minimum two (2) years’ supervisory experience with an ability to lead crews
- Must possess and maintain a valid class “G” Driver’s License in good standing
- Must possess or be willing to obtain International Society of Aboriculture (ISA) certification
- Chainsaw certificate would be an asset.
- Must be physically fit and able to lift and carry 50 lbs. frequently and occasionally up to 100 lbs.
- Must be able to stand and or walk for long periods of time. Ability and willingness to work in varying climate conditions
- Working knowledge of computer programs such as Windows and Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communications skills with a proven focus on service delivery
- Demonstrated experience and working knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations specifically concerning the requirements for job hazard analysis and the development of and training on safe work procedures
- Ability to work independently and as a team
- Ability to get along well with others including supervisors, coworkers, members of the public and other partners in service
