Regina, Canada Regina Police Service Full time

Key Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Executive Officer, this position is responsible for the coordination of all aspects of public information dissemination, corporateimaging and corporate communication.

1. Oversees the preparation and distribution of news and media releases and/or public safety/service announcements.

2. Coordinates press conferences, and prepares speaking notes for the Chief of Police or designate.

3. Coordinates news media at major incidents including providing guidance and briefings.

4. Researches, develops and provides short and long-term corporate media strategies including branding initiatives, social media and corporate imaging.

5. Advises and assists the Chief and the Executive leadership team in handling high profile or sensitive events.

6. Coordinates the preparation of statements, features or technical articles on police activities, public education and human-interest stories involving thePolice Service.

7. Acts as the representative for the Regina Police Service in media interviews when required.

8. Prepares, delivers and evaluates public information training for sworn and civilian members, members of the media and the public.

9. Supervises and mentors employees in the Public Information & Strategic Communication unit in the performance of their duties.

10. Manages budgets associated to the operation of the Public Information Section.

11. Assists Strategic Services in developing, implementing and evaluating surveys to collect information on the effectiveness of the dissemination ofinformation internally and externally.

12. Oversees the web presence of the Regina Police Service, both internally (Intranet) and externally (website).

Competencies

1. Post secondary degree in the media relations field with a minimum five (5) years of experience in public or media relations. An equivalent combination ofeducation and experience will be considered.

2. Balanced journalistic background in all forms of media.

3. Ability to express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing are critical to establish and maintain effective working relations with the media and the public.

4. Knowledge of police operations and environment an asset.

5. Ability to assess needs and plan, implement and manage public information programs to meet overall objectives or mandate.

6. Must be comfortable researching, developing and delivering presentations to target audiences internally and externally.

7. Ability to exercise a high degree of initiative and work with a considerable amount of independence demonstrating sound judgment and decision making.

8. Ability to analyze, evaluate and interpret information to effectively solve problems using considerable creativity.

9. Ability to promote and adhere to the principles of teamwork including: participation, shared responsibility, open communication, trust and mutual support.

10. Knowledge of strategic communications planning and the ability to effectively implement and evaluate communications plans.

11. Knowledge of the principles and best practices of communications and public relations.

12. Experience supervising, mentoring and guiding staff.

**Job Type**: Permanent

**Salary**: $104,400.00-$134,676.00 per year
