**PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY**

Responsible for the administration and management of all health safety and environmental programs. Including regulatory compliance, procedures, industrial hygiene exposure, WHMIS, safety compliance training, safety procedure development and review, safety promotion, and environmental compliance.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**

**Safety**
- Coordinate and conduct industrial hygiene surveys for the Brockville plant operations and Prescott warehouse to evaluate work environment exposures of employees to chemical agents such as dusts, mists, fumes, gases or vapours and physical agents such as noise, radiation, or repetitive motion stress. Develop recommendations for the improvement of exposure levels as required.
- Administer and manage the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) including material safety data sheet review and distribution, label information system, and colleague training.
- Administer and manage compliance programs for designated substances, radiation, and noise.
- Demonstrate detailed knowledge of safety and health standards and technical aspects of safety. Assist line leaders with compliance with appropriate legislation, company policy, and standards. Jointly develop and maintain effective departmental safety activities such as departmental audits, safety goals, etc.
- Develop, implement, and review policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) in areas such as industrial hygiene, loss prevention, mechanical, electrical, and process safety. Coordinate distribution of policies and procedures.
- Conduct and coordinate colleague training programs to meet the requirements of governmental regulations, corporate policies, and location needs.
- Perform hazard assessments, accident investigations, formulate corrective and preventative controls, and identify critical issues and risks in response to safety audits, accidents, incidents, or safety concerns of colleagues. Where deficiencies are found, make recommendations to management for corrective action.
- Provide leadership and direction to the safety program for the Brockville plant. Actively promote and encourage management involvement and participation. Develop and coordinate safety promotional programs. Advise location management about pending changes in safety legislation.
- Participate in Safety Committee functions, provide advice, and assist with implementation of committee recommendations.
- Maintain general awareness files of safety information, training materials and library of health and safety legislation.
- Monitor activities to ensure compliance with safety policies and legislation.
- Manage compliance to Pre-Start Health and Safety Review legislation.
- Management and Administration as a Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) for Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission. This includes maintaining and reporting of all aspects of the fixed/portable gauges on site.

On-Call availability will be required for safety/environmental emergencies.

**Environmental**
- Develop and maintain the Brockville and Prescott Facility Environmental Manual and compliance files, including key environmental indicators.
- Develop plant SOPs and arrange for or complete colleague training.
- Review and approve change control requests for environmental impacts.
- Represent the Brockville plant and Prescott warehouse for environmental issues to Government agencies (City of Brockville, Ministry of Environment and Energy, and Environment Canada).
- Coordinate facility waste audits and develop waste reduction work plans.
- Report conditions which could cause or lead to environmental noncompliance. Conduct environmental release investigations.
- Administer the hazardous and non-hazardous waste programs, including the performance of waste disposal contractor audits and evaluations.

**EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE**
- A post-secondary education in a discipline such as environmental studies, chemistry or health and safety.
- Certification with the Association for Canadian Registered Safety Professionals considered an asset (preferred).
