**Working for the Glen Sather Sports Medicine Clinic**

Located in the Kaye Edmonton Clinic and falling under the self-funded umbrella of Campus Services, the University of Alberta's Glen Sather Sports Medicine Clinic (GSSMC) is a multi-faceted facility that serves the needs of active individuals, whether you're a recreational player, a varsity athlete, or you love to exercise and stay active. The clinic consists of an interdisciplinary team of physicians, surgeons, physical therapists, kinesiologists, massage therapists and orthotists who specialize in assessing, diagnosing, treating and rehabilitating musculoskeletal, sports and exercise-related concerns.

**Position**

This position reports directly to the Team Leads of the Glen Sather Sports Medicine Clinic. The individual plays an active role in creating a safe, efficient, and effective practice environment for the clinic's patients, physical therapists, massage therapists and student learners. This individual will be involved in both direct and indirect patient care. The individual will demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, strong organizational and time management skills and effective communication skill, both verbal and written. The individual will demonstrate skills regarding appropriate patient care, patient positioning, and use of mobility aides, treatment modalities, and exercise prescriptions. The individual will be directed the physical therapists they are assigned to support. This assignment may change during the day and on a day-to-day basis.

**Duties**
- Coordinates the flow of patients from the reception area to the physical therapist's treatment area.
- Ensures the workspace is cleaned and stocked between patients.
- Ensures equipment is cleaned per recommended guidelines.
- May copy information for patients as directed by the physiotherapist.
- Ensures all equipment and supplies are returned to appropriate space when no longer in use.
- Retrieves patient-specific information from NetCare and EMR for the physiotherapist as required for care and in accordance with privacy legislation and HIA.
- Orders supplies, braces, splints, and equipment as needed to keep an inventory in the clinic store, The Next Step.
- May schedule follow-up appointments for the patient in the EMR.
- Process patient payments and direct billing requests.
- Fits patient with brace/splint aide as requested by the clinician.
- Teaches crutch or cane walking to patient.
- Implements therapeutic interventions as directed by the physical therapist, including thermal, electrical and mechanical modalities.
- Under the direction of the physical therapist, provides teaching of therapeutic exercises, reinforces the physical therapist's explanation and provides verbal instructions and demonstration to assist the patient in understanding the treatment plan.
- Calibrate equipment and perform the biomechanical testing of patients.

**Minimum Qualifications**
- Physical Therapy Assistant Program Diploma/Certificate.
- Must be able to work rotating shifts between the hours of 06:30-20:00, and occasional Saturdays.

**Preferred Qualifications**
- Minimum of 1 year of related work experience in a physical therapy clinic or in hospital setting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
