**Heavy Equipment Operator**

**Summary of Key Responsibilities**

The Heavy Equipment/Water Treatment Plant Operator is a support position that is directly responsible for the operation and maintenance of all equipment under Public Works Department
- **Duties**_
- Manage the coordination, operation and maintenance of heavy equipment such as grader, gravel truck, backhoe, tractor, mower, bobcat, water treatment plant etc.
- Responsible for all maintenance of logs on all equipment
- Establish and maintain regular maintenance schedule, maintaining all equipment and ensuring that they are locked away securely
- Advise the Public Works Manager of required purchase orders
- Coordinate and remove snow from roads, public parking areas and residential approaches in a quick and efficient manner
- Responsible for performing minor repair and maintenance tasks to equipment as directed by the manager
- Responsible for maintaining the public grounds in a neat and tidy state
- Ensure proper health and safety precautions are taken when handling and storing dangerous goods and equipment
- Inspection of Water Treatment facility on regular bases
- Monitor operating conditions, meters and gauges regularly
- Collect and test water samples regularly
- Record meter and gauge readings and operational data
- Operate equipment, tanks, filter bed and other related duties
- Follow all applicable Federal and Provincial regulations
- Ensure safety standards are always met
- Monitor the status of plant operating guidelines, such as flows, pressures, chemical class and water quality indicators by reference to measuring systems and make recommendation to the Public Works Supervisor for appropriate process changes.
- **Qualifications**_
- Possess a certificate in heavy equipment operator training with at least three years of relevant experience
- Current Water Treatment & Waste Distribution Certificate and maintain such certification throughout term of employment will be an asset. Must be willing to undergo various related trainings when asked to
- Be mechanically inclined and possess necessary skills to operate heavy/light equipment and to maintain the same
- Possess a valid Class 3A of 5A licence in order to operate the equipment
- Be willing and able to perform physical labour during duties.
- Possess the ability to develop and maintain a regular maintenance schedule for road maintenance and maintenance of the ditches along the roadways
- Be well organized and meticulous
- Possess the ability to take directions and work with minimum supervision
- Capability to prepare periodical reports
- Be of a pleasant and professional demeanor and be punctual, reliable and capable of maintaining confidentiality
- Be willing to submit to pre-employment drug screening prior to commencement of employment
- Possess a reliable vehicle to commute to work
