**Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting Recruitment Guide **_(overview of our recruitment, testing and selection process)._

**Applicant Assessment Process**:
Stage 1: Applicants will be screened for minimum qualifications.
Stage 2: Qualified applicants will be invited to participate in a Physical Abilities Test (PAT).
Stage 3: Selected applicants will be invited to attend an in-person interview.
Stage 4: Selected applicants will be contacted to offer employment or a position on an eligibility list.

**Physical Abilities Test (PAT)**
It is strongly recommended that applicants ensure they are properly conditioned to perform this physically demanding assessment. If in doubt, consult with a medical professional to discuss prior to participating. The PAT is comprised of (2) components: Timed and Non-Timed. This assessment is designed to simulate functions required as an ARFF member of our Team. Applicants will be scored based upon time to complete the stations as well as the observed ease and effort. Applicants will be required to participate wearing gym/exercise type clothing, close-toed footwear and leather gloves (all to be provided by the applicant). Applicants must be clean shaven and not wearing any jewelry or body modification hardware which may interfere with the proper fitting of a SCBA facepiece. Failure to complete any component of the PAT will disqualify the applicant from continuing with the assessment process.

All stages of the PAT must be completed in successive order to be considered for advancement to Stage 3.

**Non-Timed Assessment**
- Applicants will be required to demonstrate the ability to deadlift a 200 lb (90.7 kg) load from the ground to waist height in a controlled fashion and place back on the ground. Dropping the weight at any point will nullify the attempt.
- This assessment simulates the extrication of an aviator from the cockpit of an aircraft.

**Timed Assessment **_(while wearing an SCBA and unconnected facepiece)_
**Stage 1 - **Rescue Manikin Drag. Successfully move a 165 lb (75 kg) Manikin 150' (45.7m). Can be carried or dragged.
**Stage 2 - **Must navigate through series of pylons for a return distance of 150' (45.7m)
**Stage 3 - **Charged Hose Line Advance. Successfully advance a 150' (45.7m) charged 1 ½” (38mm) hose line and discharge a stream to hit a target.
**Stage 4 - **Using an 8lb (3.6kg) maul, perform 20 hammer strikes on a tire. Maul must not be dropped at any point.
**Stage 5**:

- Must shoulder and carry a bundle of 4” (101mm) hose 150' (45.7m) and set down in a controlled fashion. Applicant will return to the marshalling area to rest and rehydrate. Mandatory clearance from Safety is required prior to release.

We thank all applicants for their interest in our Team. Only those selected through each stage of our process will be contacted and invited to advance through the competition
