**About us**

Cornwallis Veterinarians Ltd is a privately owned, mixed animal Veterinary practice with two clinics located in the beautiful Annapolis Valley, NS. Our primary clinic in Kentville offers a full range of medical services for small animals and a fleet of large animal mobile units servicing the many farms and equine clients in the Valley. We also operate a small animal satellite clinic located in Three Mile Plains. We have been in business since 1956 and we currently employ a total of 22 Veterinarians and 28 support staff. Our clinic also provides 24/7 on-call emergency services for both our large and small animal clients.

We are currently seeking an Accounting Manager to join our growing practice.

The role of the Accounting Manager is to provide financial information to the Directors and Management of Cornwallis Veterinarians Ltd by gathering, entering and analyzing accounting data and preparing reports. He/She/They maintain accounting controls by preparing and recommending procedures and substantiating financial transactions by auditing documents and reconciling financial discrepancies.

**About the job**

Duties include, but are not limited to:

- On time preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements and statements of cash flow
- Reconciling corporate general ledger accounts
- Budgeting, forecasting, and investigating variances with a focus on improving process efficiency and performance.
- Initiating and managing financial and accounting software, POS systems, etc.
- Auditing daily sales and purchases and investigating items to ensure appropriate accounting for transactions in compliance with Accounting Standards
- Recording income and account payments
- Preparing and making bank deposits
- Organizing purchase receipts and invoices; and managing both accounts payable and receivable
- Processing reimbursement requests and expense reports
- Calculating basic tax deductions and preparing HST for filing and submitting
- Managing payroll accounts and processing payroll for employees, including income tax, CPP, and EI deductions, health plan benefits and other deductions as well as creating annual T4’s
- Identifying, initiating and monitoring internal controls and addressing issues as they arise
- Support with the fiscal inventory count and auditing final count numbers

**What we require**
- A certificate or diploma in Bookkeeping/Accounting with 5 years of experience
- A strong understanding of the fundamentals of accounting including finance, accounting and budgeting; and the ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections
- Proficiency in financial, administrative and clerical duties including payroll
- Clerical experience with accurate data entry
- Advanced technical skills with Excel, Sage Accounting and AviMark veterinary software is an asset
- Effective time management skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines

**Salary**: $45,000.00-$60,000.00 per year
