**Caseworker - Community Service Order Program**

**Division**: Community and Justice
**Reports to**: Manager, Adult and Youth Services
**Work Status**: Temporary - Part Time
**Salary**: $22.81 per hour

**Duration**: Until September 30, 2024
**Location**: All JHS Durham Offices and Community Locations as Required
**Travel**: Yes, as required (mileage reimbursement)
**Hours**: 22 hours per week (Will require flexibility)

**Union**: This position is part of the bargaining unit for CUPE 2936.13

**About the Role**: The Community Service Order (CSO) Caseworker will work with individuals referred by the Probation and Parole office who have a condition to volunteer in the community as part of their sentence. The CSO Caseworker will utilize mediation and collaboration skills to supervise and support clients in completing their placements. Responsibilities include developing placement opportunities within Durham Region, maintaining case notes and statistical reports, and communicating with partnership organizations.

**Responsibilities**:

- Pay close attention to file details to determine appropriate placements, incorporating the individual’s strengths, interests, and limitations.
- Utilize brief counselling techniques and a trauma-informed approach to support individuals through the process of completing CSO hours.
- Provide accurate information about the justice system to service users, community organizations, and the public.
- Develop and maintain relationships with community organizations within Durham Region to promote and support CSO placements.
- Maintain up-to-date client and placement documentation, case records, and program statistical information.

**Requirements**:

- Post-secondary diploma or degree in justice studies or social work.
- Understanding of justice-involved and high-risk individuals and situations.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, with attention to detail.
- Solid professional boundaries and adherence to program policies and procedures.
- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening required.
- Ability to work within a flexible schedule.

**Working Conditions**:

- May be exposed to infectious waste, diseases, etc.
- Must be able to work in all JHS Durham Locations and community locations.
- Physical activity includes sitting, walking, and standing.
- Must be willing to undergo a Police Vulnerable Sector Check.
