Conditions of Employment:

- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must possess a valid Class 5.0 F driver's licence.
- Must have the ability to travel within the province (by air or land).
- Must be able to work extended hours or irregular hours such as weekends/overtime, involving overnight stays (possibly in a camp environment).
- Must be physically capable of performing the required duties of the position such as prolonged sitting, medium lifting (carrying up to 25 lbs), walking (on possible uneven surfaces) and wearing of Personal Protective Equipment.

Qualifications:
**Essential**:

- Civil Engineering Technology diploma or completion of the Department's Level 3 training program (with the exception of Design 3).
- Experience working in roadway construction and preservation (i.e. Grading, Base and Surfacing projects).
- Directly related experience in all aspects of survey (Preliminary, Construction, Bridge, Railway, Hydraulic Assessment, Culvert Replacement, and DTM).
- Knowledge of survey packages (GEOTOOL, Carlson SurvCE, Carlson X-port, etc.).
- Knowledge of construction orders and tender documents.
- Experience with Microsoft Office software package including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Knowledge of construction specifications, procedures and guidelines.
- Knowledge of Occupational Safety, Health & Risk Management policies and procedures.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills to communicate effectively and courteously with internal contacts, other branches/divisions, and stakeholders.
- Analytical, interpretive and written communication skills to maintain accurate records, and prepare applicable correspondence and associated technical reports for a wide-ranging audience.
- Ability to lead, plan and organize staff to meet project objectives.
- Ability to work under general supervision to manage assigned project budgets, plan and organize the methods and details for accomplishing work goals and priorities.

**Duties**:
The Highway Survey Technician reports to the Highway Resource Manager and performs technically advanced paraprofessional work and provides survey support, establishes survey control on design and construction projects, provides evaluation on new survey technology and provides survey support to Construction Support Services on a province wide basis. The Highway Survey Technician provides specialized survey training and support to Regional, Water Management & Structures (WM&S), Emergency Measures Organization (EMO) and Northern Airport & Marines Operations (NAMO) staff in all areas of survey.
