Supportive Role Opportunity in Oshawa

Looking for a caring and compassionate individual to work 1:1 in a supportive role for a woman in her 60’s who lives in the Oshawa area. The support is needed within her home environment as well as within her community. This support is offered through the Family Managed Care program.

**Available hours**: 14 per week. You will work with the family on building a schedule. The hours can be divided between two or three days. **Tuesdays** are required and another day or two later in the week. The rate of pay is **$27 an hour**.

This role is best suited for someone who has a willingness to learn about the individual and has strong communication skills and patience. The individual being supported will benefit from positive reinforcement in her environment with a strong focus on maintaining her independence and respecting her role within the home.

**Some of the tasks/responsibilities of the role may include but are not limited to**:
Assisting with ordering groceries and/or taking client shopping once a week. Assistance with arranging and attending medical appointments (doctor, dentist).

Help to maintain a calendar of community participation.

Encourage exercise for 30 minutes e.g., walking

Assistance with household chores including laundry, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning her bedroom.

Assist her with meal prep for day.

Assist with cleaning/organizing her files and paper throughout the apartment and developing an organized method for new papers/files

**Community related Support**

Visits to a senior’s program or a gym at least once weekly
Take her out for coffee, meals

At home suggestions: play cards, build a puzzle, listen to her favourite music

**Key Requirements**:
You will need to have valid CPR certification, an updated Vulnerable Sector Check and liability insurance. For certified PSWs, that would work out to approx. $300 a year.

**Driving **- There is an expectation that the supporter has a valid drivers licence and reliable vehicle.
- **This is a self-employed Independent Support Worker position. This position works directly with a family and all scheduling is family lead**_

**Job Type**: Part-time
Part-time hours: 14 per week

**Salary**: $27.00 per hour
