**The Agency**

The John Howard Society of Red Deer is a non-profit organization working to promote community harmony through the advocation of human dignity and social justice. We support and serve those involved in the justice system through a restorative process and believe in treating every person with fairness, dignity and compassion while holding each person accountable for their own behavior.

**The Project**

Central Alberta Drug Treatment Court Services offers community-based treatment support services to the participants of the Central Alberta Drug Treatment Court -Provincial Court of Alberta - program. Working together within a multi-disciplinary team, the Drug Treatment Court program involves a process of intensive judicial supervision, treatment, rehabilitation, and community reintegration for individuals who have become involved in the criminal justice system as a result of their substance use disorder. The program works in partnership with multiple government ministries, community agencies, and organizations to provide the link to resources for participants.

**The Position**

Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Drug Screener will provide regular and random observed drug screening (training provided) to the above-mentioned population. This screening occurs both on-site and in the participant home at scheduled and varying hours, 365 days a year. The Drug Screener will follow standardized procedures for screening and documentation.

**Note**: Due to the sensitive and personal nature of drug screening, these are gender matched positions. We currently seek one male screener.

Mandatory Requirements
- Minimum two years of experience in the last 5 years working with vulnerable populations
- A background in law enforcement, corrections, or specimen collection and/or related human services experience.
- A valid driver’s license, registration, insurance, and a reliable vehicle
- The ability to work flexible/varying hours including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Strong ethics, accountability, and adherence to standards of practice.

Desirable provisions
- Experience with drug screening practices and specimen collection
- Self-motivated and able to manage own schedule.
- Have a strong interest or experience in working with addictions and/or the criminal justice system.
- ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training)
- First Aid with CPR
