**Description**:
Reporting to the Chief Library Technician or her representative, the Library Assistant carries out simple and varied tasks ensuring that Library activities take place as they should.

**Departmental mission**:
The mission of the Culture, Sports, Leisure and Community Development Department is to improve quality of life by promoting accessibility, participation, and integration of all citizens through the provision of excellent community, cultural, sports and recreational facilities, activities, and services.

**General responsibilities and goals**:
**The jobholder’s main responsibilities are as follows**:

- Registers members, prepares material and documents and processes loans and returns for document and audio-visual material.
- Picks up books, magazines, DVDs, CDs, etc.; puts them away on the shelves; files index cards and documents; supervises the reading rooms.
- Takes reservations, manages the waiting list and the use of Internet stations and explains how to use them.
- Provides simple explanations on membership and loan rules, the configuration and use of documents, the configuration of catalogues, the use of the premises, etc.; refers complex cases, disputes and complaints to his or her superior.
- Issues Accès-Montréal cards. Verifies citizens’ identity, fills out the necessary documents and issues temporary cards. Provides information on programming.
- Leads activities for adults and children upon request.
- Verifies that suppliers’ deliveries match the appropriate invoices, writes purchase orders, reports any discrepancies to his or her superior.
- Stamps and affixes bookplates, pockets and labels to documents; puts the library seal and call numbers on documents.
- Consults the catalogue to check whether certain documents are listed in it; indicates documentation requests on cards.
- Makes minor repairs to documents and maintains audio-visual material; sorts and prepares printed material for binding.
- Collects sums of money for fines, for the fee-based collection or for the sale of items (Accès-Montréal card, reusable bag, library card for non-residents, Internet printing card, show tickets, etc.).
- Counts and balances the cash register according to the transaction reports. Completes refund slips for lost documents.
- Ensures accuracy of entries on auxiliary employee time sheets.
- Compiles numerical data for statistical purposes.
- Performs clerical, typing and photocopying duties.
- Uses various office automation devices as needed to accomplish certain job-related tasks while using the appropriate programming.
- Performs all other related tasks.

**Job requirements**:

- High school diploma
- Bilingualism (spoken and written French and English)
- Ability to communicate with the public
- Tact and courtesy

**Schedule**:
28 hours per week

Tuesday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
