**Andrologist**

Reporting to the Senior Embryologist and Laboratory Director, this position performs all andrology duties. The andrologist is specifically accountable for assessment of human semen samples, the manipulation of human testicular biopsy samples for sperm recovery, preparation of fresh and frozen semen samples for intrauterine insemination (IUI), donor insemination (DI) and in vitro fertilization

(IVF)/ intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), preparation and freezing of human sperm, maintenance of a cryobank for human sperm, and maintenance of andrology computer records. The andrologist may also assist in quantitative serum analysis of fertility hormones.

**Job Duties/Responsibilities**

Assesses and processes human sperm.

Extracts and processes sperm from surgical procedures (TESE, PESA) for use in ICSI.

Freezes human sperm.

Thaws and/or prepares frozen sperm for IUI, DI and IVF/ICSI

Maintains a cryobank for human sperm

Prepares and communicates laboratory testing and cycle outcome reports to patients and physician/nursing care teams.

Inputs and maintains electronic and paper databases for andrology

Assists in conducting basic research into human sperm as directed by the Lab Director.

Assists in conducting clinical research on andrology and other cycle outcome parameters as directed by the Lab Director.

Assists in the training of new staff.

Assists in the review and evaluation of current and new protocols and the revision of laboratory SOPs.

Ordering laboratory supplies as needed; ensuring adequate levels of inventories at all times.

Participation in lab QC/QA program

Participation in clinic chart review

Participation in the lab optimal environmental maintenance activities.

Quantitative analysis of fertility hormones using the Roche cobas e411 analyzer.

**Qualifications and Skills**

Medical Lab Technologist (MLT) Diploma, or
BSc or MSc in Biological Sciences, reproductive biology, animal science or related field preferred.

CFAS certification program for Canadian ART Laboratory Professionals preferred

2-3 years previous job-related experience.

Understanding of human reproductive biology

Problem solving skills

Communication and interpersonal skills

Attention to detail.

Background in biology, biochemistry, and/or genetics

**Working Conditions**

Manual dexterity and hand-eye co-ordination

Exposure to biohazards (i.e. human reproductive material/fluids) / few chemical hazards (i.e. formalin)

Exposure to compressed gas cylinders and liquid nitrogen tanks

Ability to sit at a microscope/computer for prolonged periods of time; some standing and walking

**Salary**: $18.00-$38.80 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week

Schedule:

- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
