The Oil Sands Monitoring (OSM) Branch is seeking a leader who is comfortable operating in a complex and fast-paced work environment

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Science Program Manager will be providing environmental science support and leadership on functions of the Oil Sands Monitoring (OSM) secretariat. In this role, you will be accountable for coordinating the annual monitoring plan, tracking implementation status, quarterly and annual science reporting, reporting on program products and work plan deliverables. You will also be involved in directing and supporting scientists on administrative processes and requirements, developing key messaging and tracking progress, delivery and scientific outcomes and accountabilities of staff. Liaising with stakeholders including industry, academia, Indigenous communities, ENGOs and other federal and provincial government is critical for this role.

**Responsibilities include**:

- Overseeing multiple scientific work plans and ensuring that they are progressing as per OSM requirements
- Leading coordination and implementation of teams and partners for OSM science workshops, stakeholder events and symposiums
- Leading, coaching and mentoring staff and partners by promoting a culture that supports professional development and scientific excellence
- Coordinating, developing and supporting a direct report and scientific staff in the production of State of Environment reports which conveys monitoring information and analysis created by the OSM program
- Developing program science documents including briefings, status reports and presentations
- Preparing an annual program monitoring plan, activities work plan and budget
- Building and maintaining relationships with multiple stakeholders such as representatives of federal and provincial governments, Indigenous communities, delivery organizations, etc.
- Ensuring compliance with appropriate legislation to maintain a safe work environment

**Qualifications**:
**Requirements**:

- University degree in a science field related to environmental science, interdisciplinary studies or natural resource management.
- 6 years of progressively responsible leadership and management experience with a focus on environmental science programs.

**Equivalencies**:

- Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.

- Demonstrated experience in issues management and the administration and governance of science programs within a multi-disciplinary, multi-interest and politically
- sensitive environment, as is the ability to deliver accurate results within challenging timelines.
- Demonstrated experience of advanced oral and written communication skills, including providing science driven advice and strategic support to senior leadership
- A Master’s degree or higher in a science field related to environmental science, interdisciplinary studies or natural resource management.
- Experience collaborating with internal and external stakeholders within the energy and/or environmental sector, including supporting incorporation of western science, Indigenous knowledge, local knowledge, citizen science and community-based programs into environmental monitoring, evaluation and reporting.
- Knowledge of international, national, provincial and local issues relevant to the condition of the environment, with emphasis on the oil sands region of Alberta.
