Overview:
**This position is located in Yellowknife, NT.**
Participates as a member of the Transmission & Distribution Group and performs Journeyperson level work in the construction and maintenance of electrical transmission and distribution systems, including substations underground and streetlight systems.
**Responsibilities**:
- Always work safely, adhere to all aspects of the NTPC Health & Safety and Environmental programs, comply with all rules & regulations, and continually practice health & safety while performing any duties.
- Ensure the safety of other employees, contractors and the general public in the workplace by:
- Reporting any failure to adhere to safety practices or rules
- Providing detailed orientations and identification of hazards to all visitors
- Removing hazards or make the workplace safe when leaving a work area
- Participate in the continuous improvement of the Health & Safety program, Environment program as well as NTPC’s safety culture.
- Restores transmission and distribution systems when there is a power disturbance, failure, or storm damage by locating the source of the problem, replacing and /or repairing defective power lines and accessories.
- Completes pole and conductor replacements on distribution Transmission systems throughout the NWT Power Corporation. (120v to 115KV)
- Calculates transformer, conductor and fuse sizes for various distribution system upgrades. Includes feeder and phase balancing.
- Completes customer service meter readings and installs single phase and poly phase metering.
- Investigates customer problems and complaints. Performs collection duties including connecting and disconnecting customers.

Qualifications:
- Certification as a Journeyperson Power Lineperson, with an Interprovincial Red Seal PLT preferred, **AND** a minimum of four (4) years of directly related experience in the installation and maintenance of power distribution line systems required.
- Class 3 driver’s license with air brake endorsement required.
- Knowledge & the ability to assist in the use of specialized equipment and be familiar with test procedures on power transformers, breakers, metering tanks, high voltage cables and switches, voltage regulators (i.e. ratio tests, capacitance /dissipation factor testing, DC HYPOT testing).
- Ability to read and work off blueprints, as well as interpret drawings, diagrams, and specifications of a variety of types of electrical equipment, including manufacturer's manuals and parts books.
- Team player with the ability to work with mínimal supervision.
- Good planning, organizational and communication skills.
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
- Must be able to provide satisfactory criminal record check.
Salary for this position ranges from $45.15/hr. - $54.86/hr. plus a location allowance of approximately $4,642 per year.
