Position Summary
This position will inspect facilities for water metering and cross connections control requirements, and provide guidance and expertise to water meter personnel. This position reports to a Coordinator. Duties & Responsibilities
Inspect existing facilities for water metering and cross connection control requirements.
Train and assist water metering personnel in basic plumbing techniques and theory.
Provide guidance to water metering personnel in water meter equipment installation.
Conduct and trouble shoot poor water pressure and other customer related concerns.
Train water metering personnel in the requirements of the cross connection control program so they can identify deficiencies while conducting their regular duties.
Performs other plumbing tasks in support of City water and sewer operations.
Test and repair backflow prevention assemblies belonging to the City of Regina.
Conduct presentations and/or promotions to various groups on the cross connection control program.
Conduct the general requirements of the administration of the cross connection control program including computerized operations.
Supervise other staff as required.
Follow all rules and regulations as set out in the Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act and the City of Regina Occupational Health and Safety Manual.
Performs other related duties as required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
General knowledge of the City’s water distribution system.
Considerable knowledge of standard methods, practices, materials and equipment used in the plumbing trade.
Practical knowledge of the Canadian Plumbing Code, the National Building Code, Canadian Standards Association Specifications, and the City of Regina Bylaws applicable to the job duties.
Knowledge of the occupational hazards, safety precautions and regulations of the trade, including regulations and safety pertaining to safe trenching and confined space.
Knowledge of related trades such as steam fitting, welding and sheet metal work.
Ability to conduct oral presentations and good customer relation and interaction skills.
Ability to diagnose, locate and make necessary repairs to malfunctions in plumbing systems.
Ability to interpret drawings, specifications and schematics.
Ability to maintain accurate records of labour, materials and equipment used in the performance of duties.
Ability to work at heights.
Ability to perform work requiring the frequent lifting of moderately heavy tools, equipment, and assemblies.
Ability to work with a minimum of supervision and to supervise subordinates as assigned.
Ability to give, understand and execute oral and written instructions.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
Skill in the use of the tools of the trade. Education & Experience
Typically the knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position are obtained through completion of grade twelve (12) or equivalent, a Journeyman Certificate in the plumbing trade, and Cross Connection Control Specialist Certificate.
Two (2) years of journeyman experience in the plumbing trade in the building construction, maintenance and backflow prevention areas. Working/Other Conditions
The demonstrated ability to provide strong communication and public relation skills in the delivery of the features and values of the Cross Connection Control Program in an enthusiastic and professional manner.
Must possess a valid Saskatchewan driver's license, have available a vehicle for work usage (a travel allowance is provided), and a first aid certificate.
