**What can I expect to do in this role?**:

- Assist in conducting field and laboratory research on rivers and lakes across Ontario by operating and maintaining vehicles and boats, and hydrology, limnology and fisheries sampling equipment in the field and lab.
- Processing and analyzing field samples in the laboratory by measuring fish physical attributes, preparing and shipping fish samples for subsequent external laboratory analyses such as stable isotope and chemical analyses.
- Assist in the preparation and summarization of background scientific information by conducting computer literature searches and compiling references.
- Assist in the development of ecological and hydrological models by managing and maintaining databases, and conducting data summaries and analyses.
- Support the transfer of science by preparing written reports and oral presentations of findings.

**Note**: The incumbent shall, while in the workplace, conduct themselves in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and any workplace practices as directed by their immediate supervisor.

**How do I qualify?**:
**Mandatory**:

- You must have graduated or will complete the requirements to graduate with a degree, diploma or post-graduate certificate from a recognized or legally authorized post-secondary institution in the last five years (May 2019-August 2024).
- You must self-identify as an Indigenous person. The term Indigenous refers to individuals who identify as being descended from the original inhabitants (the first peoples) of what is now known as Canada. In this context, Indigenous people are First Nations, Métis and/or Inuit.
- You must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- You must be a resident of Ontario during the term of employment.

**Technical Knowledge**:

- You have knowledge of aquatic biology/ecology and fisheries science and management principles and practices to assist in the delivery of research program data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- You have knowledge of and experience working with fisheries sampling techniques and monitoring and assessment methods and gear to safely conduct field and lab research on the Great Lakes and Lake Simcoe.

**Database and Analytical Knowledge and Experience**:

- You have experience working with databases and ecological data in order to prepare scientific data summaries and analyze field and lab data.

**Communication and Interpersonal skills**:

- You have written communication skills to provide input and assist in writing scientific papers and/or reports.
- You have interpersonal skills to work in group settings and collaborate with partners in a scientific environment.

**Organizational Skills**:

- You have organizational skills to manage multiple projects, solve problems, and work with other staff and partners in a collaborative science environment.
