**Job Summary**

**Responsibilities and Duties**
- Promote health and safety within the company and help to develop safer and healthier ways of working
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of OH&S legislation
- Conduct weekly jobsite inspections
- Inspect the workplace and jobsites regularly, to ensure compliance with legislation and company H&S Policies and to identify hazards and risks
- Coach, mentor and provide solutions to mitigate hazards and risks
- Assist site personnel to establish controls for each known hazard
- Complete weekly safety talks with all workers and hold monthly safety meetings
- Provide information and act as a resource to all workers, the Joint Health & Safety Committee, site safety personnel, Superintendents, and Management
- Liaise with the Superintendents to develop site specific safety plans whenever necessary
- Ensure personal protective equipment is being used in workplaces according to legislation and company policies
- Record and report hazards, near-miss incidents, accidents, injuries and safety issues within the workplace
- Work with site personnel to conduct detail investigations, report and follow up action items for every injury, accident or near miss incident
- Conduct training sessions for management, supervisors and workers on health and safety practices and legislation
- Conduct new worker safety orientations and other required training programs as needed
- Ensure effective injury case management process is fully implemented, well understood and functioning as desired
- Develop occupational health and safety systems, including policies, procedures and manuals
- Assist with the development of COR policies, procedures and audits
- Participate in the development and implementation of the COR action items following the annual audit
- Records management to ensure all training records are kept relevant, up to date and readily available
- Being present at MOL inspections and investigations
- Attend client specific training whenever necessary and assist in preparing customer specific H&S documents
- Attend Safety Group Meetings and Labour-Management Meetings whenever necessary
- Being aware of and being prepared to act upon company disciplinary policy
- Communicate frequently with senior management to report on the status of occupational health and safety programs
- Work with Senior Management to plan, measure, and forecast H&S performance, goals, and objectives

**Qualifications and Skills**
- Formal education and/or training in Health and Safety (or working towards certificate/diploma)
- OHS Professional Certification preferred (CRSP, NCSO)
- 5 years of work experience in construction (H&S, Operations, HR), preferably in the Roofing sector
- 3 years of H&S related experience an asset
- Familiarity with Ontario legislation, codes, standards and best practices in occupational health and safety.
- Safety knowledge in Fall Protection, Hoisting& Rigging, Propane Safety, and WHMIS
- Minimum 3 years of direct people management preferred
- Able to prioritize and multi-task in a fast paced environment
- Adept at handling high pressure situations in a professional manner
- Able to take an educational approach to providing safety support to Operations
- Demonstrated ability to educate and provide assistance to Superintendents and other Managers on safety matters
- Initiative to lead continuous improvement efforts
- Results orientated: Has a track record of tangible improvements
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Excellent communication, negotiation, facilitation, conflict resolution, and crisis management skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, able to break down problems and provide practical solutions
- Knowledge and practical experience conducting investigations and providing written responses/reports clearly and accurately
- Capable of development and delivering training sessions
- Familiar with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point)
- Experience in training/facilitation (adult education)
- Experience coaching and supporting site operations on development and implementation of health and safety improvements.
- Valid Driver’s License
- Team attitude with a willingness to learn
- Ability to work with mínimal supervision
