Toronto, Canada Ontario Health Full time

Want to make a difference in your career? Consider this opportunity.

The Occupational Cancer Research Centre (OCRC) was established to fill gaps in our knowledge of work-related cancers and to translate these findings into preventive programs to control exposures and improve the health of workers. It is jointly funded by the Ontario Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development, Ontario Health, and the Ontario Ministry of Health and was developed in collaboration with the United Steelworkers.

OCRC has three major research focus areas: 1) surveillance of occupational cancers and workplace exposures; 2) identification of causes of cancer in the workplace; and 3) exposure research to develop and evaluate prevention and exposure reduction strategies. A strong emphasis is placed on the transfer and exchange of information to support occupational health promotion and the effective use of research findings.

A Research Associate works within one of these three foci, conducting quantitative analyses of large and complex data sets, collecting exposure measurements and their analysis, using research findings to develop scientifically accurate occupational health communications. A Research Associate works independently on one or more projects in their area of focus and prepares polished and completed analyses for a Scientist’s or Director’s final review.

The role works independently and the ability to make decisions on how to set up an analytical framework, a field research strategy, or an occupational health promotion strategy is crucial, as an inability to do so will have major impacts on the ability of the Centre to deliver on its obligations in a timely and correct manner.
