**Position Summary**

The full-time Daycare Cook position is responsible for the planning and preparing of breakfast, lunch and snacks for Esquimalt Nation’s 37-seat daycare center. This includes cooking breakfast, lunch and snacks, shopping for necessary program supplies and creating and maintaining budgets for food programs. The Daycare Cook may assist with setting up programs, cleaning when programs are complete, program planning with the appropriate staff and/or supervisor and supporting community members to attend programs. The Daycare Cook may also prepare to-go lunches for staff and children when appropriate.

**Primary Responsibilities**
- Manages/facilitates breakfast and lunch for all daycare attendees
- Stocks the freezer with healthy, premade meals
- Creates, maintains, and reports on budgets as required
- Develops meal plans based on seasonal foods, balanced meals and culturally relevant foods
- Follows a meal plan and sticking to a budget while grocery shopping
- Keeps a log of costs, logs all receipts, meal plans and attendance numbers in order to provide a budget reporting to supervisor
- Determines supplies necessary for program implementation and acquires them
- Sets up and tears down of program components as required
- Cooks for special programs as required
- Follows safety protocols and procedures
- May assist with program set up/clean up as needed
- Other duties as assigned_

**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**
- Demonstrated knowledge of Esquimalt/Indigenous people and culture

- Strong communication (verbal and written) skills and report writing skills
- Possesses reliable public relations and interpersonal skills to clarify facts, provide information and respond to community needs
- Proven ability to work with limited supervision and follow standardized practices and/or methods
- Ability to operate/perform/deliver within a defined budget
- Skilled in working with children and families
- Demonstrated mental alertness to ensure the safety of others

**Training, Education, and Experience**
- Minimum two years’ experience in working with children
- Minimum two years’ experience in cooking for large groups
- Minimum of two years’ experience working in a First Nations community
- Clean criminal record check for vulnerable populations
- Level 1 First Aid
- Food Safe
