Overview:
Element has an opportunity for a **Lab Technician I **to join our rapidly expanding team in Edmonton. As a member of the operations team, the **Lab Technician** will be responsible for analysis and maintaining records of client samples, recording all observations and data in LIMS, ensuring appropriate quality control and maintenance is performed and requirements are met; while following documented procedures. The **Lab Technician** will prioritize and organize samples and workflow, to ensure efficient processing of samples and reporting of data to the client; as well as provide regular communication between different testing and processing groups.

**Responsibilities**:

- Prioritize samples and workflow to ensure timely progression within the lab to meet client demands
- Enter sample data and observations into LIMS
- Follow documented SOPs including quality and maintenance requirements
- Identify data discrepancies
- General duties as directed by the team leader or operations manager
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment and notify coworkers of potential sample hazards; comply with all rules and responsibilities as outlined under the corporate Health and Safety Policy

Skills / Qualifications:

- Post-secondary education in chemistry or other science related field, or high school diploma with related experience preferred
- Minimum 1 year experience in a laboratory setting
- Previous experience working with GC
- Working knowledge of laboratory safety preferred
- Data entry and computer skills,
- Troubleshooting skills
- Flexible Schedule which will include weekend and evening shifts
- Possess the ability to work alone periodically throughout the work day
- Understand what must be completed each work day and take the initiative to complete those tasks properly and in a timely manner - does not need Senior/Principal Technician or management to explain what the task is.
- Ability to re-direct original plan in order to prioritize client samples as required
- Able to work well with others and collaborate with co-workers
- Will be working with gas and oil samples, cylinders, chemicals, and solvents
- Ability to identify potential issues with information provided, and data discrepancies
- Ability to troubleshoot and perform required maintenance on instruments
- Strong ability to prioritize and organize work flow
- Flexible Schedule which will include weekend and evening shifts

Physical Demands:

- Frequency of required physical force: Minimum (moderate)
- Lifting requirements: lifting
50 lbs. on occasion
- Ability to perform computer based tasks for long periods of time
- Ability to lift 50+lbs periodically using safe lifting techniques
