**Nanaimo Science Program Leader - Job Posting**

Nanaimo Science is a non-profit charitable organization that provides hands-on science programming for children, schools, and the community. We offer a variety of programs throughout the year, including after-school clubs, weekend sessions, preschool programs, school break camps, homeschool classes, and public events.

**Position Overview**:
We’re seeking a Program Leader to help develop and deliver science education and outreach activities. This role focuses on homeschool and public school programs, after-school activities, and our "Science in the Park" outdoor science events. You’ll also participate in community events (e.g., Science Sunday Expo) and support "Science on the Move," which brings programming across the central Vancouver Island region.

You’ll work from our Nanaimo Science studio at Country Club Centre, with some programs taking place at schools, parks, and beaches. Travel for program delivery will generally be via the Nanaimo Science "Science on the Move" van; a full driver’s license and a clean driving record are valuable assets for this role.

This is a highly rewarding position, offering opportunities to enhance teaching and science communication skills while fostering a love of science in young people and the community.

**Funding Eligibility**:

**Contract Details**:

- **Start Date**: January 2, 2024 (as early as)
- **End Date**: March 2025, with a high possibility of part-time extension into the spring and full-time opportunities over the summer.
- **Hours**: Part-time (20 hours/week); hourly wage: $19.00/hr + 4% vacation.
- **Availability Requirements**: Minimum of one full day (7-8 hours) or two half-days (4 hours each) between Monday to Friday, plus potential weekend hours.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Deliver Nanaimo Science programs to classrooms and homeschool groups.
- Support outdoor Science in the Park and field trip programs.
- Guide activities for Professional Development and Spring Break day camps.
- Assist in preparing program materials and maintaining safety protocols.

**Qualifications**:

- Passionate about science outreach and teaching.
- Strong background in Science (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Math, Engineering, Computing Science, Education); university-level science courses are an asset.
- Self-motivated, conscientious, and able to work both independently and in a team.
- Ideally, experience working with children in camp or educational settings.
- Willing to work outdoors in varied weather.
- Full driver’s license (preferred) and comfortable driving our outreach vehicles.
- Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
- Able to pass a criminal background check for work with vulnerable populations.
