**POSITION OVERVIEW**

**ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS**

The Associate - Fire Protection Design will be asked to provide, as a minimum, the following services to Clients and other team members:

- Fire and life safety systems design
- Provide hydraulic calculations, pipe sizing, drawings, and specifications
- Project management during fire suppression installations; work with contractors in overseeing fire suppression system installations
- Attend construction and pre-construction site meetings
- Develop Alternative Solutions and prepare written reports with cost estimates
- Assess performance of existing sprinkler, standpipe, fire water pumps, and special suppression systems (e.g., low/high expansion foam systems, chemical powder, and clean agent fire suppression systems), selecting proper and cost-effective solutions for replacement using applicable Codes and standards
- Conduct site visits to gather data on existing conditions and review construction, review shop drawings, attend tests, and commission the systems
- Management of project staffing, profitability, and timelines
- Attending meetings with Clients and with Authorities Having Jurisdiction
- Correspondence preparation (i.e., reports and letters)
- Project budget and proposal preparation
- Manage client expectations
- Assist Finance team with project billing

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Minimum 7 years of work experience in a role designing new and existing fire suppression systems and other related systems pertaining to Canadian Building, Fire Codes, and NFPA standards
- University/College degree in Mechanical Engineering, Fire Safety, or similar
- Excellent knowledge of OBC, OFC, and NFPA standards is a must
- Professional designation (P.Eng., LET, or similar) is considered an asset
- Experience with site project management and hydraulic calculations
- Experience with fire alarm systems is an asset
- Able to obtain government security clearance
- Technically oriented; good analytical and organizational skills; attention to detail; able to complete tasks and projects in established timelines
- Self-starter that exhibits a high level of initiative and resourcefulness
- Ability to work well independently and to interact with other industry professionals, associated trades, and industry authorities
- An individual with high standards who holds themselves accountable
- Versatile and able to manage varying workloads and competing priorities
- Ability to establish positive relationships with project team members and clients
- Bilingual in French and English is an asset
