**About the South Huron Hospital Association (SHHA)**:
We serve the Municipality of South Huron and its adjacent communities—a catchment area of approximately 19,000 residents. The hospital is located in the village of Exeter, approximately 30 minutes north of London, and provides 24/7 emergency services in addition to acute, rehabilitation and complex continuing care inpatient services and various diagnostic and ambulatory services. Our staff also supports family practice and walk-in care at the South Huron Medical Centre. **Position Description**:
The Dietary Aide is responsible for the serving of meals to patient care areas, promoting and serving cafeteria meals and catering functions, collecting soiled dishes and cutlery after meal service, and other general kitchen duties to assist the Cook.
**Responsibilities**:
- Loads carts with required items.
- Organizes cutlery, condiments and beverages (hot or cold) for patients.
- Assembles meal trays and delivers to patients.
- Prepares and delivers nourishments and food supplies to patient care areas.
- Returns used trays/water carafes to food services for sanitation.
- Communicates with patients.
- Conveys service concerns to appropriate parties.
- Communicates with other staff to keep informed as to patient needs.
- Maintains professional relationship with staff.
- Follows safe food handling/storage and infection control practices.
- Sanitizes work area and equipment.
- Sanitizes small wares and dishes (both patient and non-patient).
- Uses industrial dishwasher.
- Monitors and records freezer, refrigeration and food temperatures.
- Reports (to Cook) or takes action on hazardous situations.
- Promotes and serves meals in the cafeteria.
- Operates cash register and accurately completes cash and debit transactions. Monitors leftovers/shortages in cafeteria and advises Cook.
- Supports with food/hospitality services for business functions and special occasions (e.g.: Board meetings, staff appreciation events, etc.).
- Assumes other duties as required.
**Qualifications (Education, Experience, Abilities)**:
- Secondary School Diploma.
- Valid certificate in Safe Food Handling.
- Minimum of one (1) year experience in large volume food service in an institutional setting.
- Formal customer service training is an asset.
- Pleasant, co-operative, and able to communicate well with patients, public, and other healthcare team members.
- Possesses good organizational skills. Able to speak and write English fluently. Practices safety procedures, accident prevention, and proper lifting techniques. Excels in both a team environment and as a self-directed worker.
