About School District 69 (Qualicum)

School District 69 (Qualicum) is centrally situated on east Vancouver Island and covers the area of Nanoose Bay to Bowser and spans from Errington across the Strait of Georgia to Lasqueti Island. We serve a student population of approximately 4700 students. School District 69 (Qualicum) consists of eight elementary schools (Grades K-7), two secondary schools (Grade 8-12), an alternate school (PASS/Woodwinds) and a Distributed Learning program to support home-learning families called the Collaborative Education Alternative Program (CEAP). False Bay School on Lasqueti Island is entirely off-grid with an immense solar project recently completed. School District 69 (Qualicum) also embraces many community organizations through various school programs. **JOB FUNCTION**:
An employee in this classification ensures a high level of maintenance to School District Grounds to provide

students and staff with a safe and pleasant place in which to play, work and learn.

**REPORTING TO**:
Director of Operations or designate.

**ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK**:
1. Operates equipment, vehicles, trucks and tractors, with or without attachments, and/or in combination

with trailer units.

2. Operates various other equipment to assist in placing of concrete and blacktop on small projects and

installing drainage/sewer/water systems.

3. Installs and maintains playfield and playground components such as fences, gates, goal posts, basketball

hoops and playground equipment using site plans and working drawings.

4. Constructs, renovates and maintains playfields including fertilizing/liming, dressing, aerating, seeding and

rock picking.

5. Designs, installs and maintains irrigation systems.

6. Assists in planning and scheduling projects with outside agencies as well as orders emergent supplies

directly related to projects undertaken.

7. Recommends for approval and purchases all grounds related materials.

8. May guide and assist other employees as required.

9. May be required to train other employees in the operation of specific equipment.

10. Prioritizes and completes Work Orders.

11. Maintains the safety of sites through disposal of unsafe debris, contaminated sharps and excrement.

12. Performs other job-related duties such as, but not limited to, snow removal, salting and moving furniture,

material and supplies within the District.

**REQUIRED ABILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS**:
1. High School graduation or equivalent.

2. Training in the operation of heavy-duty equipment and chainsaw safety & cutting techniques.

3. Required specialized courses related to grounds work.

4. Minimum 3 years’ experience in grounds maintenance.

5. Valid BC Class 5 with Trailer Endorsement 20.

6. Valid WHMIS Certificate.

7. Valid Emergency First Aid Certificate.

8. Physically capable to perform the job duties.

9. Ability to communicate with staff both written and verbally
