Valbruna ASW Inc., the premier specialty steel-making facility located in Welland, ON, has an immediate requirement for the following position:
**MELT SHOP SUPERVISOR**

Valbruna ASW Inc. operates a dynamic and versatile facility and has a long and storied history in the steel-making business, with roots in Welland dating back to 1918. Our recent acquisition by Valbruna Italy combined with improvements in efficiency and production flexibility have placed us among the premier specialty steel producers in North America. Reporting to the Melt Shop Manager, the Melting Supervisor’s **duties & responsibilities **will include the following:

- Supervises, directs, coordinates and assists the Melt Shop personnel to meet production targets and ensures quality standards and specifications are met.
- Oversees the operation of the melt and works closely with other departments to accommodate the melting schedule and to minimize any downtime.
- Operates on-the floor to maintain a proper melt rate, monitors chemistry and makes adjustments to the operation as necessary.
- Maintains strong knowledge of the melting work instructions, melting process, and pouring equipment.
- Ensures melting procedures are followed to achieve various grades of steel and results are in accordance with quality and order specifications. Works closely with Quality to troubleshoot heat chemistries that do not meet required ranges.
- Prioritizes melting workload based on production schedule and equipment requirements.
- Schedules staff, monitors and provides appropriate feedback on progress and quality of work performed. Follows-up on progress and completion. Responsible for ensuring current employees and new hires are properly trained in job duties, safety procedures and company policies.
- Supervises and coordinates activities of outside contractors as required.
- Responsible for checking supply and material inventory to ensure that no shortages occur which would result in production delays.
- Ensures compliance with all legislated and company safety policies and procedures.
- Responsible for ensuring work is performed safely and without undue risk. Conducts routine safety checks, maintains ongoing dialogue with employees on safety, investigates accidents, and maintains housekeeping standards.
- Cooperates with other Supervisors, team members and departments to maintain efficiency of operation.
- Completes all other duties as assigned.

The **qualifications and attributes **for the Melting Supervisor includes the following:

- Must have at least five years of Supervisory experience in a heavy manufacturing environment, preferably in a steel mill.
- Experience and working knowledge of the steelmaking operations including melting, refining, and casting of specialty steel.
- Must be willing and able to work a variety of shifts, including nights.
- Proven ability to manage and measure work, prioritize tasks and adjust to the changing needs of a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Must possess the ability to direct and plan the work of hourly employees.
- Detailed-orientated in all areas of work with excellent organizational and documentation skills.
- Exhibits strong interpersonal skills, solid computer skills and written and verbal communication skills.
- Supportive team player with a strong drive to create a positive work environment.
