Az Shunter Operator

Hamilton, Canada GFL Environmental Inc. Full time

The primary role of the Operator/Driver is to support facility operations by loading and unloading trucks and moving skids. This will be accomplished by forklift and manual material handling. The secondary component of this role is to move and reposition trucks within the yard, pick-up trucks from other GFL facilities or 3rd party repair shops.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Assist Facility Operators on the dock by loading and unloading trucks, including industrial drums and boxes
- Where appropriate, move material by manual material handling, forklift operation or by using a drum cart in a safe and secure manner
- Load forklifts onto trailers in preparation for weekend work at MHSW events
- Shunt and reposition trucks within the yard
- Pick up trailers from other GFL facilities on a daily basis or when required
- Pick-up trucks from other GFL facilities or from other locations as required

**Knowledge, Skills & Competencies**:

- High School Diploma
- AZ License, in good standing
- Ability to drive both Automatic and Standard transmission tractors
- Two (2) years of AZ driver experience is an asset
- Previous forklift experience is an asset
- Previous experience handling chemicals is an asset
- Must be able to read labels on containers of waste to determine hazard characteristics
- Must be able to write in a clear and legible manner in order to complete required paperwork
- Trained on transportation logs an asset (as required by Transport Canada)

**Working Conditions**:

- Must be able to lift up to 40 to 50 pounds
- Position requires the ability to stand for long periods of time and walking
- You will be required to work outside in all weather conditions which may include hot, cold, dirty, dusty, wet or noisy environments
- Flexible working hours i.e. starting prior to 4:00PM to meet operational needs of the business
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment which may include hard hats, eye protection, hearing protection, respirators, flame retardant clothing and safety boots
