Scale Operator

Arbec Forest Products Inc. - Miramichi Division manufactures oriented strand board (OSB) for clients located throughout North America.

Arbec Forest Products Inc. is looking for a Scaler for its Miramichi, NB mill-site location. Reporting to the Woodlands Superintendent, the incumbent will be primarily responsible for all aspects of quality assessment and measurement for roundwood delivered to Arbec’s Miramichi facility.

**Duties & Responsibilities**:

- Complete all duties in a safe manner
- Operate truck weigh scales and accurately input information into scaling software
- Communicate and ensure compliance with Government and company policies, procedures and standards for safety, environment, wood quality, cost control and waste reduction
- Coordinate inventory control; directing trucks to appropriate areas as required
- Load quality inspection of roundwood
- Cube sampling to establish mass conversion factors
- Perform weekly & monthly inspections as required
- Measurement of wood piles for inventory verifications
- Planning and preparation of work and inspection reports
- Assisting woodlands staff with other operational and support systems
- Undertake other tasks as requested by the Superintendent

**Skill Requirements**:

- Strong commitment to safety
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Forest Technologist or Forestry degree or equivalent experience
- Scaler’s license would be an asset, and will be required to attain/retain while employed
- Effective planning and organizing skills
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Woking knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills
- Ability to handle stressful situations
- Possess a valid Class 5 NB driver’s license

**Work Conditions**:

- Use of required personal protective equipment
- Work in an industrial setting, with extended periods of standing and other physically demanding conditions
- Walking over uneven surfaces
- Interaction with truck drivers, employees, management and contractors
- Operation of desktop computer and peripherals
- Exposure to varying weather conditions
- Early/Late alternating shifts
