**Location**: Office based at the Robert Lee YMCA (Downtown Vancouver) with option to do work from home. Travel is also required to program sites in the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley
**Terms**: Full-Time, Term
**Shift** 35 hours per week
**Salary**: Salary under review (includes benefits)
**Start Date**: July 31, 2023
**End Date**: August 31, 2024 (with possibility of extension)
**Reports To**: Manager, Chronic Disease Programs
**Nature & Scope**:
The Supervisor will report to the Manager, Chronic Disease Programs and work collaboratively with other program staff, volunteers and participants. The Supervisor will be responsible for coordinating and leading, and/or delivering various chronic disease prevention and management programs. This may include the supervision and support of part-time staff and volunteers.
The incumbent will have a solid understanding of chronic health conditions and a strong commitment to building the capacity of individuals in the area of health and wellness.
The Supervisor, Chronic Disease Programs, will specifically be responsible for coordinating the Choose to Move program provincially and also delivering the program locally as an Activity Coach. Choose to Move is a 3 month, choice-based group facilitation coaching program for inactive, older adults. The Choose to Move program is an initiative of the Active Aging Society and UBC's Active Aging Research Team—and is made possible through funding from the BC Ministry of Health. Choose to Move aims to tackle the growing issue of sedentary lifestyles, which contribute to chronic disease progression in older adults, by addressing common barriers of motivation and access to physical activity.
This position also works as part of the YMCA Healthy Heart cardiac rehab program team, leading group fitness exercise classes, both virtually and in-person, for people living with cardiovascular disease.
This role will also be responsible for researching, and potentially developing and running, new chronic disease prevention and management programs to best meet the needs in the community.
**Major Responsibilities**:
- Program coordination including all administrative tasks as they relate to Chronic Disease programs at the YMCA, particularly the coordination of the Choose to Move program at YMCA’s across BC
- Work as part of the YMCA Healthy Heart program team and deliver exercise classes to individuals living with cardiovascular disease
- Provide leadership to program delivery and ensure program content meets the appropriate criteria for special populations with chronic diseases
- Conduct participant intakes, including collection of program fees and YMCA database management
- Train, supervise and support part-time instructors and volunteers at various class locations
- Assist with recruitment and performance management for P/T staff and volunteers
- Research and possibly develop, lead and supervise new chronic disease prevention and management programs
- Work with the Manager on the marketing and promotion of programs
- Maintain an atmosphere of achievement that inspires self and others to succeed at the highest levels
- Ensure the safety of all members, participants, staff, and property by following YMCA standards/policies/procedures and ensuring they are maintained amongst all members and staff
- Promote philanthropy through the YMCA’s annual campaign and assist with Community Health fundraising initiatives
- Attend staff meetings, planning sessions and training events as required
- Other duties as required
**Requirements**:
- University degree in Kinesiology or Human Kinetics preferred
- Current Group Fitness Certificate and/or Personal Training certification an asset
- BCAK Practicing Membership an asset
- Experience delivering exercise programs for diverse populations
- Experience working with older adults and/or those living with chronic health conditions
- Supervisory experience an asset
- Excellent customer service, communication and team-building skills
- Strong administration and coordination skills
- Ability to work flexible hours based on program needs
- A valid BC driver’s license and access to a vehicle
- Current Standard First Aid & CPR-C + AED (can be obtained within the first 30 days of employment)
