Job Title: Economic Assistant

**Job Purpose/Summary**:
The employee in this position will work alongside and under the direction of the Director of Economic Development & Tourism to complete ongoing departmental functions and projects. The role will involve fielding economic development inquiries and enhancing the operational efficiency and effectiveness of the department through website and social media management, conducting research, maintaining records, coordinating meetings and events, and liaising with contractors.

**Examples of Work**:
1. Provide general assistance to the Director of Economic Development & Tourism to fulfill ongoing departmental functions.

2. Assist with the development and implementation of departmental plans.

3. Assist in monitoring and maintaining the departmental budget and record management.

5. Lead or assist with the research and implementation of assigned activities and projects.

6. Manage the updating and maintenance of District websites and social media pages.

7. Organize and maintain files and records, including contracts and leases.

8. Assist with public outreach activities, including information collection and distribution.

9. Plan and coordinate travel, events, tradeshows, and out-of-town functions.

10. Liaise with contractors and other third parties to deliver departmental functions and projects successfully.

11. Liaise with outside agencies and regional partners, including businesses, community groups, government agencies, and the general public.

12. Assist with business retention and expansion initiatives.

13. Assist in maintaining the District land sale database.

14. Attend out-of-town meetings, conferences, and seminars when required.

16. Other duties as assigned.

**Job Specifications**:
**Education/Qualifications**:

- Post-secondary education related to Tourism, Business, Planning, or Economic Development—required.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of current Microsoft Office software—required.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat, desktop publishing (i.e., Canva), and website management programs (i.e., Squarespace, WordPress)—required.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills in research and statistical record keeping—required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of economic development theories and practices—preferred.
- Experience working with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign) - preferred.
- Demonstrated skill in the use & care of a variety of tools & equipment used in office environments—required.

Valid minimum class 5 BC Vehicle Driver’s License - required

**Experience**:

- A minimum of one year of working experience in a field directly or indirectly related to Tourism, Planning, or Economic Development—is required.
- Experience in implementing marketing and promotional activities—required.
- Experience in the organization and delivery of events—required.

**Communications**:

- Must possess superior interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively.
- The ability to maintain harmonious working relationships with facility patrons and other staff members.

**Tasks**:

- Must work effectively with mínimal supervision and as part of a team.
- Must maintain confidentiality about information received or collected during the work.
- Must be able to adapt effectively to changing operational priorities and tasks.
- Must complete all tasks safely, following established safety rules and regulations.

**Salary**: From $32.50 per hour
