**Wage: $18.00/hour**

**Hours: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM, 37.5 hours/week**

The Youth Connector will report to the Program Manager and support youth in stabilizing & building capacity within their lives by increasing community and cultural connections. This position is to help youth connect various community supports & services. The work is done with a harm reduction approach, a relationship-based practice, trauma informed lens, and a strength-based philosophy.

- be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period;
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

**Position Responsibilities**
- To work collaboratively with community partners to support life skills as young people transition to adulthood.
- Establish relationship-based practice with participants and to build rapport with service teams, family members & other supports.
- Provide cultural support. This may include, but is not limited to, attending sweats, smudging, connection to elders, pow-wows, teachings, drum making, rattle making, sun dances, and round dances.
- Provide youth with basic needs of food, clothing, hygiene, harm reduction and other essential services
- Ability to assess and provide crisis intervention
- Assist in creating a safe, secure, and supportive environment which respects the participant and his/her right to participate in all decisions affecting them.
- Provide guidance and support and make referrals for youth participants on issues related to health, family, addictions, justice, education, employment, recreation, and housing.
- Work with the Youth Services team to deliver the Coordinated Youth Response initiative on-site at the Community Centre.
- Ensure all data collection and reporting are carried out in a safe, efficient, and timely manner.
- BSCS is more than a workplace. It is a community where everyone helps and contributes to the whole, and there is an expectation that all employees will take part in events (during the work week and occasionally during weekends and evenings). This includes fundraising campaigns, running community meals, medicine picking etc.

**Qualifications**
- Meet all Canada Summer Jobs Requirements*
- Police Check with the Vulnerable Sector and Child and Youth Intervention Check completed within the past six months
- Valid First Aid certificate or enrolled in a future course
- Experience with and knowledge of Indigenous culture and ceremonies is considered an asset.
- Experience working with high-risk youth is an asset.
- Demonstrate knowledge of addictions, gangs, sexual exploitation, homelessness, poverty, use and neglect.
- Knowledge of Indigenous Culture.
- Knowledge of the Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act.
- Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Transportation of clients is a necessity therefore must have a reliable vehicle and drivers license.
- Must have excellent boundaries.
- Mental resiliency is key.
- Ability to assess and provide crisis intervention.
- Ability to safety plan with the young person around addiction, homelessness, domestic violence and/or criminal activity.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the High-Risk Youth Initiative, including harm reduction and relationship-based practice.
