**Summer STEAM Mentor**

Summer STEAM Mentors are caring, creative, energetic, relationship-focused, responsible, tech-savvy leaders passionate about children, education and community development.

As mentors, instructors and positive role-models supporting children to have fun learning how to create and innovate with today’s technology in community-based, maker education environments, they demonstrate exceptional teamwork and initiative taking, and are comfortable and confident with people from different backgrounds.

**This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) Program**

**Role & responsibilities includes**:

- Learning how to effectively support children’s social, emotional and educational development through hands-on, experiential, STEAM- and group-based, maker education, in collaboration with community partners.
- Under the direction of the Community Program Coordinator and working closely with Program Directors, Program Specialists, volunteers, and partner organization staff, supporting delivery of youth-focused, STEAM-based activities and programs to children and youth, using technology.
- Engaging, inspiring, mentoring, leading and teaching children innovation, technology and an entrepreneurial mindset.
- Teaching children and youth how to code and developing their digital skills, using 3D printing, computer-aided animation and design, digital audio and video recording and editing, "Internet of all things", kid-friendly coding, robotics and drones, wearable technology, virtual reality, etc.
- Learning about, and working with a variety of technologies and tools.
- Collaborating and actively participating in multi-stakeholder environments.
- Navigating complex situations/people dynamics; engaging/motivating people; and building strong connections/relationships to inspire youth.
- Thriving in an informal, peer-led, shared learning environment driven by fun, exploration and self-fulfillment/empowerment.
- Supporting the achievement of program goals/outcome.
- Working with Supervisors to collect daily attendance, data, etc.
- Other relevant duties as required.

**Summer STEAM Mentor is a full-time (35 hours/week), 8 week summer position from June 26 - August 18, 2023**

**Qualifications**
- Studying early childhood education, social work, computer science, IT, technology or programming, engineering, science, social studies, and marketing and communications.
- Experience working with children and youth and managing projects/programs.
- Professional, responsible and fair conduct with staff, volunteers, stakeholders, donors, sponsors and supporters.
- Excellent communication and social media skills (both spoken and written).
- Highly creative self-starter, with an ability to engage and facilitate consultative processes and consensus building with staff, senior volunteers, stakeholders, and implement with a keen attention to detail.
- Ability to manage projects and people, and multi-task to meet competing deadlines.
- Demonstrated capacity to work effectively in a diverse work environment.
- Ability to actively provide constructive strategic, creative and logístical input, solutions, planning and problem-solving.
- Team player who is happy to pitch-in and help out as required.
- Drivers License is considered an asset.

**Outcomes**

Develop and advance your teaching and technological knowledge, skills and expertise through firsthand experience in:

- Learning about innovation, technology and entrepreneurship to engage and inspire children and foster their social and educational development: communication, creativity, critical thinking, and problem solving, collaboration and digital skills.
- Working effectively in teams with staff and volunteers, volunteers and organization partners to achieve deliverables and outcomes through collaboration, shared learning and knowledge exchange, and research and analysis; and autonomously.
- Collaborating and actively participatin
