The Advisor provides support and leadership to processes that develop and implement collaborative management solutions to strategic resource management issues in partnership with Indigenous communities. The position will require the Advisor to provide advice, support, direction, and training to other ministries about existing and new approaches to managing natural resources with First Nations, including advice for existing consultation processes and assisting in consultation when required. This position may also require coordination and collaboration with other ministries in negotiating agreements and assisting in the implementation of those agreements.

The Advisor position with Land Use Policy, Planning and Ecosystem is part of the South Coast Strategic Land Use team. This team works closely with Indigenous communities located in the South Coast region. In-person meetings with Indigenous partners occur in home communities, and other members of the South Coast Strategic team are located in: Powell River, Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Squamish and Surrey.

**Job Requirements**:

- A degree in social sciences, science, law, natural resource / environmental management, or public administration plus two (2) years of experience developing and fostering respectful and long-term relationships with First Nations and/or Indigenous organizations and/or communities with First Nations or Indigenous people; OR,
- A diploma or degree in a different field plus three (3) years of related experience developing and fostering respectful and long-term relationships with First Nations and/or Indigenous organizations and/or communities with First Nations or Indigenous people.

Preference may be given to applicants with:

- Experience in planning and conducting research and analysis related to land use, resource management, First Nations, and/or social or economic development issues.
- Two (2) or more years of experience within the last five (5) years in consulting with First Nations regarding natural resources.
- Experience with policy development and implementation.
