**Join a dynamic team at Fort Henry National Historic Site of Canada, part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, that provides guests with an understanding of historic military life through guided tours, interpretation, heart-pounding musical performances and precision military demonstrations.**

**POSITION**:MILITARY MUSICIAN - LANGUAGE SKILLS (student)

**HOURS OF WORK**:variable to a maximum of 36.25 hours per week (must be able to work weekends, evenings and holidays as required)

**SALARY**:$16.35 per hour

**PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT**:May 8 to September 3, 2023

**WHAT CAN I EXPECT TO DO IN THIS ROLE?**

You will:

- Be a representative of one of Kingston’s premium and internationally recognized tourism sites.
- Interpret the role of a recruit British fifer, drummer, bugler and/or bagpiper in 1867 British North America.
- In period costume, interpret the history of Fort Henry National Historic Site of Canada - part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site - to visitors by executing military drills and manoeuvres, taking visitors on English and French guided tours, participating in historical dramatizations, solo and group musical demonstrations, events, parades and performances.
- Participate in daily training routines of the Fort Henry Guard Drums including: music practice, foot and instrument drill, formation drills, firearms demonstrations, artillery gun drills, and military etiquette.
- Perform a variety of 19th century period musical pieces from memory while executing marching formation drills.
- Maintain personal uniforms, historic weapons, and accoutrements by regular shining and cleaning.
- Perform before the public and attend internal and external special events.
- Make each guest’s experience at Fort Henry National Historic Site of Canada interesting and enjoyable by providing excellent customer service.
- Work safely at all times and report unsafe activities immediately to your supervisor.
- Embody the SLPC’s equity, diversity and inclusion principles while interacting with staff and guests.

**HOW DO I QUALIFY?**

You have:
MUSICAL SKILLS:

- Advanced theoretical knowledge and practical musical skills on a musical instrument, particularly the snare drum, flute/fife, bugle, and/or bagpipes. If no prior experience on listed instruments, must be able to become proficient in required timelines.

PHYSICAL SKILLS:

- A high degree of physical fitness to perform 19th century British army foot and arms drill (both infantry and artillery) and to meet other essential physical demands such as working outdoors in hot weather.
- The ability to learn and execute precision choreographed military drill in a short period of time.
- The ability to work within a team environment in a fast paced live-performance format.

ACTING & PERFORMANCE SKILLS:

- The ability to work in a fast-paced and high stress work environment and can meet high performance expectations.
- The ability to learn historical information, particularly Canadian and/or British military and social history c. 1867, within a limited timeframe and interpret it to the public (in both individual and group settings).
- The ability to portray an historical character by wearing a historical costume and performing the role in public.
- Communication and interpersonal skills to provide excellent program delivery, customer service and effective information service to both the public and staff.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

- Linguistic skills (fluent) in both English and French

SAFETY SKILLS:

- The ability to learn all safety protocols and procedures to ensure personal, visitor and fellow staff safety is always maintained.

Must be at least 17 years of age, as dictated by the Explosives Regulatory Division (ERD).

A vulnerable service sector check is required for this position.
